When the Storm is Raging in Our Lives
What is the Storm?
Our trials and tribulations can cause a blanket of gut-wrenching emotions
to cover the woman we know ourselves to be. They make us act and do things we
wouldn’t even consider under normal circumstances. And as we toss, turn, and try
to tussle our way out of our dilemmas, they seem to get worse. Then, when we
think we couldn’t possibly handle more, our knees buckle under the weight of our
burdens and we cry "Lord, why?"
We become confused and angry because we cannot see God’s mercy in our misery.
What is the storm? It could be the very thing that
led you to this site. The storm is anything that
causes you to relinquish control of
your divinely inspired purpose and calling. It is described by most in
the Christian community as a trial or tribulation. It can be anything
that keeps you from real joy, but to cut through the chase, the storm is
most often a direct result of a lack of knowledge, or an unwillingness
to align our emotional and mental beings with the Word of God.
God’s Will equals His Word. Before we can begin to pull ourselves
out of the doldrums, it is imperative that we know one thing, and that
is the Will
of God. We, at
Sundie Morning Sistas, believe that God’s will for each of us can be
found within His Word. He doesn’t keep us wondering aimlessly about
trying to figure out what direction in life we should take, nor do we
need to depend on signs, calling psychic hotlines (definitely a
no, no), or running to prophets every other week. God tells us
in His Word the remedy for all of our troubles, and He gives us
a roadmap for success, it is we who have a
problem following it.
As it relates to the dilemma of life’s little dramas, we make
following God’s plan wayyy too complicated. “Faith” is certainly
a major player in the plan, but the one critical factor which seems to
elude us is that faith is based on truth. Our personal tribulations and
problems will unmask our weaknesses and teach us lessons that help us to
grow and develop spiritual muscle. That is what they were designed to
do. It is our choice to learn them, and sometimes we choose to bypass
those lessons because we aren’t ready to face the truth.
If we were courageous enough to peel back the layers
of our pain, we would probably uncover a fear
of facing the truth…the truth that we feel unloved, devalued, stripped
of joy, and ashamed. It is only when we stare those fears face to face
that we truly see the strength of God, and then
realize that we have it on the inside.
Everybody says that, but few understand what it
really means. You see, when we become Christians, we have to believe
and trust in what God says in Romans 10:9,10 about receiving salvation.
He says that we must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in
our hearts that He has raised him from the dead. In the earthly realm,
a “lord” is someone to look up to and cherish. He is worthy of great
reverence, respect, and honor. We would look to a lord for instruction
if we wanted to know how to do something in the very best way possible,
and with the greatest level of detail, because he would leave no detail
undone, and would do a quality job every single time. Jesus is Lord!
He so deserves every bit of reverence that we are able to extend.
Honoring him as Lord causes something to happen
supernaturally. We can’t see it, but God tells us that something does
in fact transpire, and many of us feel something different in our inner
being. We experience a spiritual transformation as a direct result of
changing our hearts to believe in something greater than ourselves, and
then confessing it. This is the very same faith we must have when we
are confronting our fears—our loneliness, depression, brokenness,
addiction, quilt, shame, sickness, and disease.

6:10 KJV

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his
might.
You can’t just want to get past the pain; you must be
determined to be greater than the pain. In and of ourselves, we may not
be able to bear very much, but through God’s power, we can be strong. We
must trust that there is life after the storm. The sun does shine, and
we ARE victorious!
