Dear Heavenly Father,
One thing I’ve learned on my Christian journey is that you can’t do what everybody else in this world is doing. You told us in Romans 12:2 (NLT), “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” This verse hit home for me because it helped me to make better decisions for my life. Before I understood Your love and instructions, I thought it was important to do what I saw other people doing, and I was always worried about this. Whether it was on social media or in school, I was anxious about fitting in and being the ‘same’. Once I read Romans 12:2, it opened my eyes to the bigger picture of what You expect from me. After that, my only concern is growing more mature in Your Word, so that I can please You and walk in my destiny.
I now understand that as Christians, we are held to a higher standard. It is a spiritual standard, and we must be aware of what we do, think, and say at all times. Our every move should be answers to the questions, “How can I please God today? How can I be a blessing to someone? How can I be of service to the Kingdom of Heaven?” You tell us in Genesis 1:26 that we are made in your image, after your likeness. This means we have it within us to think the way You think, and to be like Jesus Christ. When we discipline our minds to be like him, then we’re on the right track to fulfilling the destiny You have set for our lives.
I have also learned that when we try to do things our way, we fail, because 90% of the time our decisions are based on the flesh. The flesh wants to do what it wants, and is mostly motivated out of selfishness. We need to be able to put that to the side and allow the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and direct us into Your truth. Your way is the right way! In John 14:6 (NLT), Your Son told us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Living by the example of Jesus Christ is the way to please You, and this is what gives us victory in life.
I realize now that You look at our hearts, so I don’t want to go before Your throne with a messed-up heart. I want to please You, and come to You as humbly as I possibly can. Forgive me, dear Heavenly Father, for all the times I didn’t offer You my best, and thank You for all You have done for me.
