Human Pride Will Be Brought Down

Dear Heavenly Father,

You tell us in Your Word that arrogance is a sin, and it is one that You strongly dislike. We think of Adam’s and Eve’s disobedience as being the first sin to betray You, but the devil betrayed You first. Called Lucifer, he was once an angel of light in heaven, and this was a very important assignment in Your Kingdom. Light is a reality that encompasses more than illumination. It also includes wonderful attributes like intelligence, expediency, warmth, loveliness, and liberty. The enemy was well-versed in all these and more; he knew Your Word, and he also knew Your nature.

As with all of Your creations, You created the enemy to be beautiful and full of Your glory. In Ezekiel 28:13-15, You tell us that You made Lucifer the model of perfection, full of wisdom and exquisite beauty. You adorned his clothing with precious stones and gold the day he was created, and You gave him the distinction of being a mighty guardian angel. You gave him access to Your holy places and said he was blameless until the day arrogance took over his being. You said of satan in Ezekiel 28:16-17(NLT), “Your rich commerce led you to violence, and you sinned. So I banished you in disgrace from the mountain of God. I expelled you, O mighty guardian, from your place among the stones of fire. 17 Your heart was filled with pride because of all your beauty. Your wisdom was corrupted by your love of splendor. So I threw you to the ground and exposed you to the curious gaze of kings.”

Instead of giving You glory, satan decided that he wanted it for himself. The enemy became full of arrogance and wanted to be worshipped. Arrogance was the first sin, and it got the devil kicked out of Heaven. This is a warning to us, because in Isaiah 2:11(NLT) You tell us, “Human pride will be brought down, and human arrogance will be humbled. Only the Lord will be exalted on that day of judgment.”

Jesus Christ teaches us in Luke 14:11 that people who place themselves high on a pedestal and think way too much of themselves will be brought low. But those who are humble are the ones that You think highly of, and they will be exalted. Arrogance has no place in Your Kingdom, and it must be cleansed from our hearts. Heavenly Father, please help us to recognize when we are falling away from a humble attitude. Help us to continually develop tender hearts of compassion for those that are in need, and not think of ourselves as being above anyone. Thank You for showing us in Your Word how to have a mind and heart that pleases You.

Thank You for being an awesome and amazing Father to us. We honor You, Most Holy God, and thank You for Your mercy and grace. Thank You for Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Please help us to be a blessing to Your Kingdom, and let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
