Eyes on the Prize

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am learning very important lessons about different seasons in a person’s life. Just as You created the four seasons within the earth, You have created this same pattern within the lives of Your people. You tell us in Ecclesiastes 3:1(NLT)

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”  Within these seasons, there are times appointed for all the different components to life. You go on to tell us in Ecclesiastes 3:2-4 that there’s a time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. There’s a time to cry and a time to laugh.

There is also a time to go higher in Your Word and in our relationship with You. When this season is upon us, it can be a very trying time. We have an enemy, Your archenemy, the devil. You warn us in 1Peter 5:8 to stay alert and watch out for the devil, because he prowls around like a roaring lion, looking to devour our lives. This lets us know in very certain terms that during our season to go higher, there’s no room for distractions.

We have a race to run, and You have told us to press toward the mark so we’ll receive the prize of Your high calling in Christ Jesus. We don’t have time to look back at what could have or should have been. We can’t go back and try to pick up the broken pieces of the past, or to carry people on our backs that have refused to run beside us. You have commanded us to trust in You with all our hearts and to keep our eyes locked on You.

In Romans 12:2, You tell us not to look to the world and become consumed or distracted by what they have going on. Trying to steal our focus with shiny, sparkling, pretty or handsome allures is one of the biggest tricks of the devil, and we must be on guard so that we are not pulled in. Instead of wasting our precious time and energy on that stuff, You direct us to renew our minds to Your Word, because our task is to prove how good Your perfect Will is. As we stay our minds on You and Your Word, and keep our eyes on the prize, You will reward our diligence. We will come through our season with renewed strength, ready to soar like eagles and run without becoming weary from the race.

Thank You Heavenly Father for guiding our footsteps through this tedious journey, for there can be no conquest without a contest. We know that we have already won the victory, because our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ won it for us. We are more than conquerors through him. Help us to be strengthened through Your precious Holy Spirit, so that we keep running and keep our eyes continually on the prize.

Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
