Clinging to You!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Through the Apostle Paul, in 1Timothy 6:12 (NLT), You tells us, “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.”  Your Word tells us that faith is a fight. It is a good fight, but a fight none the less. This lets us know that some things in life will come against our faith and try to prevent us from believing and trusting You as we should. We will have to wrestle with those things in our minds and hearts, so that we can stay in Your Will and continue to grow in our relationship with You.

You encourage us in this verse to hold tight to the eternal life that You’ve given us. This means that we should cling to the promises in Your Word, and not cling to the conditions and circumstances that our physical eyes can see. This entire week has been a battle for me, Heavenly Father. I am able to more clearly recognize that it is truly a fight to stay in a place of faith in my mind in some areas of my life. I have been hit with circumstances that gave me no other choice but to let some things go, and to trust You with everything in my being.

The things that we can visibly see are very often the cushions we look to land on when things are not working out in our lives the way we expect. Those cushions are sometimes relationships, situations, and people we count on to always have our backs. Some of us will even run to these things in times of hardship before we go to Heavenly Father. Deuteronomy 13:4(NLT) states, “Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.” I heard You telling me that the cushion I looked to for a soft landing is the thing I was holding tightly when I should have been clinging to You.

In John 15:20, Jesus Christ taught the disciples that the student is not greater than the teacher. He reminded them that people persecuted him, and they will want to do the same things to us. We must learn to endure discomfort like the soldiers You have called us to be. We’re going to endure some things on this earth, and some of them will make us very uncomfortable, but Your Son, Jesus Christ, overcame the world and so will we.

1Peter 2:21 (NLT) tells us, “For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.” Father God, please remove the veil from our eyes so that we can see Your Word clearly and order our steps accordingly. Help us, please Father, to have a mind and heart to do good even when our situations and circumstances are not optimum. Help us, please, to do all we can to grow stronger in spiritual strength so that nothing in this world injures our faith. We want to be our best for You and Your Kingdom, and we know from Your Word that this is what You desire from us.

Thank You for showing us Your love, strength, and power as we cling to You. Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
