Dear Heavenly Father,
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7:6(NLT), “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.” When I first heard this verse, I was a little taken aback because it kinda’ compares unholy folks to swine. In today’s climate, people are offended by even the smallest infraction. Social media would go bunkers if Jesus Christ spoke these words publicly today. Our loving Savior is unabashed in his plainness of words and truth. He is conveying that there is a judgment that we, as Your sons and daughters, are to make.
The first judgment call is to understand that Your Word is the rarest of pearls. Nothing compares to it. Your Word has no equal, and it is matchless! The second judgment we are to make is that of discerning those that are unholy. You don’t want us to be cruel or mean to anyone, but You are serious when it comes to identifying those that ridicule Your truth and demean those of us who stand on it and believe it with all our hearts.
In Matthew 10:16, Your Son instructed us, “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.” We are not to look down on anyone, but You intend for us to walk in wisdom when it comes to those who have refused Your love and truth and will never accept it. We must have a supreme honor for Your Word and hold to it tightly, treating it as the most precious thing we have; for truly it is.
We are not to go off sharing the mysteries and treasures You’ve given us to those who could care less. We’re not to throw pearls to those who can’t catch them. And if we are uncertain about our ability to judge people rightly, You tell us in Matthew 7:7 to keep on asking, seeking, and knocking at Your door, because You will open it to us. You’ll give us wisdom through the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit. He will teach us to recognize those that are against us and not for us.
Thank You for helping us to make good and worthy investments in the lives of those You have ordained. Please give us the wisdom to discern not only those that are right, but those that are right for us. Help us to do Your Will and to be wise stewards of the Word You’ve entrusted to our care.
Thank You for showing us Your love, strength, and power as we seek to grow in You and trust You with our whole hearts. Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
