The Blessing of Abundance

Dear Heavenly Father,

I was taught something today about Your law of Giving equals Receiving, and it really blew my mind. Your precious Son told us in Luke 6:38(NLT), “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” I realized that I had limited the truth of this verse to finances only. I didn’t see the depth of its truth as it practically applies to keeping our entire lives flourishing in a way that pleases You.

You are a God of abundance! Ephesians 3:20 tells us that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us! You go over and above because nothing is too big or too hard for You, and You love to bless Your people. But You are not wasteful. Everything that You do has a purpose. Everything that You do is monumentally intelligent and perfect. Redundancy is not in Your nature, and this applies to the abundant way in which You bless Your people.

You are a God of order, and You desire that we follow the way You do things. You’ve told us in 1Corinthians 14:40(NLT), “But be sure that everything is done properly and in order.” This verse means that You expect us to be excellent stewards of Your blessings to the very best of our ability. No hoarding them—no being selfish, and no being greedy with them. We must manage your blessings properly. Your Son, Jesus Christ, co-signed this in Luke 16:10, where he tells us, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”

If we haven’t proven ourselves willing to make the most of the blessings we have in our possession, we will not make the most of greater blessings either. Many people make the mistake of thinking they should be rewarded when they have not proved themselves faithful to Your Word. They desire abundance, but they have no desire or plan to share it with others. This is not how You designed abundance to work. It is given to those who have made a habit pattern of operating out of the overflow.

A person can only operate out of the overflow if they know the spiritual meaning of abundance. The definition of abundance is having our needs met with plenty leftover to share. If there is no intention to share wisely, according to Your Will and Plan, then there can be no abundance.

I learned that the point of receiving blessings is to be a conduit for them to bless others, not to hoard them for ourselves. This is why You have commanded us to tithe. It is not because You need money, it is because it provides us with an opportunity to bless Your Kingdom. Jesus affirmed that when we tithe and give, our gift will return to us in full, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. These are words from his lips, and if we lack the faith to believe in the law of giving and receiving, how will we build the faith to receive the greatest desires of our hearts?

Dear Father, please help us to be more generous givers. Teach others the practicality of this law just as You have taught me. Please help us to open our hearts to You through our giving, for this creates a channel by which You will bless us. Thank You for making abundance available through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and please help us to walk in abundance with the grace and generosity that pleases You.

Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
