Dear Heavenly Father,
You tell us in Psalm 37:5(NLT), “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” Father, sometimes we read Your direct and plain instructions, but we don’t allow the impact of them to resonate in our souls. In this verse, we understand that there’s work to do while we’re on this earth. We can see this from the very beginning. In Genesis 1, Your Word tells us that You didn’t send rain before You created a human being to cultivate the ground. Even before You created a body to house Adam’s spirit and soul, You had already predestined that work would be an essential component of our existences. We have work to do in our families, on our jobs, and most importantly, we have work to do for Your Kingdom. Your direction to us is to do all this, and everything else, with a heart that is committed to please and honor You. If we do this, You have committed Yourself to help us. You are such a loving Father!
We also learn from Your Word that commitment is very important to You. Throughout the history of humanity, You have made covenants and promises to us, and You never renege on them. Through our new birth reality, we also made promises to You as well. When we accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we accepted You into our hearts. Through Christ, we have made You the focus of our lives. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 how our commitment to You is to be carried out. He said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” It is extremely important for us to keep our commitment and seek You first in everything we do. It demonstrates that we are understanding Your holiness, love, righteousness, and power.
Jesus Christ is the head of our lives, and it can be very detrimental to break our promise and not accept his leadership and direction. Lord please help us so that we do not make this terrible mistake. Please preserve us through the Holy Spirit that indwells us, so that we can receive Your divine direction and order our steps accordingly. Please let us know when we’re heading in the wrong direction—a direction that is opposite of where You desire us to go. You tell us in Psalm 18:36 that You will keep our feet from falling as we keep our minds and hearts stayed on You. Please guide us continually, Dear Father.
Please help me to keep my commitment to You. Please clear up any confusion I may have. As I tarry in prayer, please help me stay focused on the prize of the high call of Jesus Christ. Lord, I never want to revert to my old ways, but I desire to continue to grow in Your love and be more like Christ. I want to walk in the destiny You’ve set for my life. I want to be pleasing to You and to do good deeds that You planned for me to do long before I was born. I invite You, Dear Lord, to work within me so that I accomplish Your plan for life. I commit to pray and study Your Word more so that I continue growing in Christ. I know that You will help me, and I thank You for all that You’re doing in my life.
Thank You for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Please let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
