Fall is Here!!! It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the last few months of the year. I hope that most of you enjoyed the sunshine of summer and got a lot of time outdoors with your family and friends…that’s what summer is all about. Although summer is behind us and many dreaded seeing it go, I must admit that autumn has always been my favorite time of the year. The warm hues of reds, oranges, golden yellows, and greens remind me just how much seasons change with the constant flow of life. Seasons are an indicator that nothing stays the same and the world around us is forever changing. This is a good thing because God set it in motion from the very beginning of creation. He left no stone unturned, not even the change of seasons. The question we must consider is how we’ll welcome the new season that He is bringing into our lives.
We are living in a time where many people seem to be very unhappy with themselves and with their existences. Very often it is because of a troubling event like a marriage or relationship falling apart, a job loss, or an illness that persists. Any time we face changes like these, we are presented with a choice. We can try to resist or avoid change at all costs and allow it to paralyze us, or we can go deeper in God’s truth and allow change to propel us towards new growth and opportunity. It’s up to us.
The very nature of change is to initiate transformation. When it comes to living a life that pleases God, transformation is inescapable. In Romans 12:2, He commands that we should not copy the behaviors and customs of this world. We should not do things just because society stamps them with an “OK”. Our aim should always be to please God. Again, He tells us not to be conformed—shaped and molded—by the world’s standards. Instead, God wants us to be transformed by renewing our minds. To renew your mind is to change the way you think. This means we have to shift our attitudes and reexamine some of our opinions, so that our mental and emotional landscape looks like the mind of Christ.
As we look outside and see the beautiful colors, we should recognize that God has woven this tapestry into the earth to demonstrate that He intended change to be beautiful. It opens the door to new possibilities, and we should remind ourselves of this continually.
Sometimes things happen that we don’t fully understand. They can shake us to our cores, but the Father wants us to lean on Him when this happens. Proverbs 3:6(NLT) tells us, “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” When change is upon us, we don’t have to panic, because God will not leave us or forsake us. He will show us the right path to take. Psalms 91:2 tells us that He is our refuge and fortress, and we can place our total trust in Him.
The seasons let us know that it’s that time again. Change is upon us because nothing in life stays the same. Transformation doesn’t always mean perfection, it means we’re committed to see what God is showing us, and that we will trust Him through the process of becoming all that He desires us to be. If we will remain committed to walk in the Spirit, obey God’s Word, and seek the Lord in all we do, like the seasons, we will make the necessary shifts; we’ll stay on the path that pleases Heavenly Father and blesses us as well. ■
