The Guidance of Your Word

Dear Heavenly Father,

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 4:4(NKJV), “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”  No matter what he faced, Your Son always came back to Your Word. Your Word is life to us, because it is alive. As we read it, Your Holy Spirit does a work on the inside of us, and we begin to grow in spiritual character. Psalm 119:105(NLT) says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Through Your Word, You direct us on the path You’ve ordained for our lives. This is one of the reasons we need to hear Your voice and respond to Your instructions, because You are helping us navigate through many of the challenges we’re facing today.

For some of us, these challenges far exceed any we have faced before. We’re in a position where we feel like we can’t move. We don’t know what to do and how to make things better. We need Your divine guidance, and we are praying to receive it. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 7:11 that if sinful people know how to give good gifts to their children, how much more will You give good gifts to those who ask You. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask You, because You are generous towards us, and You won’t be angry with us for asking. So, You have made it clear that we can come to You for answers, and we will receive them, but many people are complaining today that You are silent, that You are not giving them answers or pointing them in the direction they need to go.

The truth is that You are never silent. You are always communicating with us. So it isn’t that You’ve stopped talking; we’ve stopped listening. We want Your goodies, but we don’t want to have intimate fellowship with You. We always have an agenda that revolves around receiving what we want, rather than just basking in Your presence. We haven’t learned the discipline of meditating in Your goodness, and this is an integral component to pleasing You.

We must understand what it means to build spiritual character, and that this is something that occurs through walking with You as we encounter the ups and downs of life. Impatience, selfishness, and immaturity blocks us and robs us of the peace that is necessary to move in alignment with the mind of Christ. Please help us to comprehend what it means to rest in You. Help us to see that our relationship with You through Christ isn’t dependent on circumstances and conditions. It is based on the truth of Your Word and who You’ve made us through Jesus Christ. He is the author and finisher of our faith. We can look at him and know who we are supposed to become. Thank You for giving us Your extraordinary Word, so that we can be guided according to Your truth. Thank You for showing us Your love, strength, and power as we seek to grow in You and trust You with our whole hearts. Thank You for our Blessed Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
