Dear Heavenly Father,
I am so thankful for the wisdom that is in Your Word. In Proverbs 15:5, You tell us, “Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.” Personally, this verse hits home for me. Growing up into my early teens, I was one of those persons that despised correction, in fact it was an insult to me because it crushed my ego. I rebelled against parental discipline. It held a mirror up to my face and exposed my mistakes and flaws, and these were things that many of us run from. We don’t look at correction as instruction for victorious living. Instead, we take offense and see it as a negative. Most of us are comfortable right where we are, and the thought that we have to change something about ourselves is for many of us a very uncomfortable place to be.
Comparing my life now to the way I was then is like night and day. I’m extremely thankful to have a mother that instructs and corrects me in Godliness. Sometimes it isn’t easy to hear and, in the past, seemed harsh to me, but I see now that I desperately needed it. I see the grace and mercy You provided through those that love and want the best for me. Some of the choices I made were reckless, but You never left me or removed Your covering from my life. You supplied good examples of Christ-like living to give me up close and personal demonstrations of Godly motherhood and womanhood.
You tell us in Hebrews 12:11(NLT), “No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.” I testify that this Word is true, because I’ve lived it. There is nothing better in life than enjoying the peaceful harvest of right living. Father, please help Your people to hunger for Your Word so that they can live peaceably and joyfully before You. Thank You for continuing to strengthen parents as they grow in wisdom about Your Word. Thank You for the special brand of motherly wisdom You have given to mothers, because so many of us have been blessed to receive it. Please help all mothers continue to learn the spiritual lessons in Christ that will be vital for the well-being of Your children.
I’m not perfect, and none of us are, but I’m so thankful for how You have grown me up in Christ. Thank You for the indwelling Holy Spirit and how he helps us every day to live for You. You tell us in John 16:13 that the Spirit will guide us into all truth, but many people today are rejecting his leadership and guidance. They don’t want the truth, and Hosea 4:6 says that people that reject the truth will be destroyed. This is not what You want. You want everyone to enjoy the more than abundant life that Christ made available. And living through Jesus Christ is the only way to have this prosperous life. Please help us to see this Heavenly Father, and to change our ways so that we receive the blessings You have in store for us.
Thank You for the wonderful and beautiful mothers that You have given to the world. They are conduits of Your divine love, and through them we are reminded daily that You are a loving Father. Thank You for giving the world Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for our sins, and thank You for Your precious Holy Spirit. For these and all other blessings, we thank You. In the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
