Dear Heavenly Father,
In Ephesians 1:11, You tell us how we all fit into the extraordinary portrait You have painted for the entire universe. We are Your masterpieces, Your most exquisite handiwork, and long ago, before You founded the world, You predetermined our existences. You knew us even then, and You have designed us to be like Christ. He is our blueprint, and everything You wanted to accomplish in humanity is contained within him. He is the firstborn of many brothers and sisters, and we are his siblings.
Nothing about us was left to chance. You purposed the time and place of our births, and You have purposed every one of us in Your plan. Our bodies are Your temple. Your Spirit resides inside us, and this is why we shouldn’t marry and become one with anyone that does not love and honor You. We must be humble and seek Your guidance and direction, because the person we will marry is so important to our union and intimacy with You. In 2Corinthians 6:14 (NLT), You warn us not to team up with individuals that do not know the Lord Jesus Christ and will never accept him as their Savior. Through the Apostle Paul, in this verse, You asked, “How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.”
You are holy, holy, holy! We cannot in any way intertwine Your temple inside us with the kingdom of darkness. We can’t bow to the enemy through partnership with someone that belongs to him. No, not ever. We must be so careful to honor You and Your Kingdom through the Lord Jesus Christ. You tell us in Romans 12:2 not to be conformed to this world, but we must be transformed by renewing our minds to Your Word.
In Hebrews 13:4, You command us to hold marriage in honor among everyone. It is the union You have created and ordained for Your children, and we are so thankful You’ve given us this wonderful way to learn about unity and intimacy. It helps us to grow in our relationship with You, and this is the most fulfilling and meaningful thing we can do in life. Growing in Christ is life itself! So please help us, Dear Father, to open our eyes so that we continue to bring honor and glory to You, and do not engage in practices that injure our walk in Christ. Thank You for Your powerful Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for the gift of Holy Spirit, and thank You for all Your many blessings. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.
