Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Son, Jesus Christ tells us in Matthew 6:33(NLT), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” We are to seek You first in all that we do. For some of us, this is a difficult practice to uphold. Most of us make decisions based on our emotions, and this leads us to operate in the flesh. I was guilty of this during this week, Heavenly Father, and I humbly ask for Your forgiveness. Like many of us have done at some point, I left work so upset and ready to put in my two weeks’ notice! I was tired, I had a rough shift, and I was completely ready to throw in the towel.
I expressed my emotions to my mom, and as usual, she had encouraging words for me. She said, “Don’t make a permanent decision based on temporary emotions.” Thank You for parents that teach, instruct, and model Your Word before their children. My mother’s words stuck with me, and I was able to get over those upsetting emotions. Not only was I thinking selfishly, but I didn’t seek You first as Jesus Christ instructs. Seeking You first must be set to automatic for the believer, but I put my feelings above my faith. I let myself become too upset, and consulting You was not my first thought in that moment.
Ecclesiastes 10:2(NLT) tells us, “A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one.” Please help us to choose the right paths in life so that we can enjoy all You have in store for us. You have blessed us with jobs and careers, and sometimes we don’t show our appreciation to You for these blessings. Instead, we complain about the work, the people, and the time we spend at our places of employment. Some of us never demonstrate thankfulness to You for what You’ve done, and this is one of the reasons we perceive only the negative.
Jude 1:24(NLT) tells us, “Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.” You are glorious, Heavenly Father!!! You have all power in Your hands and there isn’t anything that You do not know. You can keep our feet from falling, and You have given us the joy of Christ through Your precious Holy Spirit.
You don’t make mistakes. 2Corinthians 1:20(NIV) tells us, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.” The blessings that You give us are well with You, therefore, they ought to be well with us. It is so easy to forget that You have strategically placed us where we are. Where we live, where we work, where we shop, and the people that are in our lives; all of it is according to Your plan and purpose. We need to recognize this, renew our minds to Your Word, and shift our attitude to faith and gratitude.
Please forgive us for not walking in wisdom and Godliness when it comes to our jobs and careers. Please help us to remember that we are on this earth to be a blessing, to help and not hinder. Thank You for reminding us to be grateful to You in all things, and to seek Your counsel and wisdom before making hasty decisions. Thank You for helping us on our jobs by giving us good work environments. Thank You for Your favor, elevation, and promotion in the workplace. As You bless us, we will be ever so careful to return the blessing to You through gratitude and by being gracious, generous, and as positive as we can in our places of employment. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.■
