Dear Heavenly Father,
You are awesome and amazing, and there is none like You. Your name is holy and worthy to be praised. Thank You for making us Your children through Your Son, Jesus Christ, and thank You for sending him to the earth to give his life for the remission of our sins. Words are not adequate to express how thankful we are and should be for his sacrifice. Please forgive us for not always remembering to be incredibly thankful for all You’ve done. We repent of this sin, and for all the other things we have felt, thought, said and done that were contrary to Your Word and Will. Thank You for helping us to be better people as we seek Your plan and purpose for our lives and study Your Word.
Father, You have done so much for us, but many people don’t understand or haven’t accepted all that Jesus Christ accomplished for them. Many people wake up every morning with sadness in their hearts and confusion in their minds, and many believers are in this number as well. They don’t know that You have a purpose for their lives. They haven’t diligently pursued You to find out what it is. They allow their days to take shape without consulting the Holy Spirit and asking for His guidance.
Through the psalmist, You have instructed us in Psalm 100:3(ESV), “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” At the start of each new day, we should wake up with joy in our hearts because we belong to You and You belong to us. You have handpicked us out from among the whole world, and we have the privilege to spend our days praising and fellowshipping with You through Your Holy Spirit.
You tell us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20(NLT), “19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” You have given us Your precious Holy Spirit as a gift, and he lives inside the born-again believer. He has a front-row seat to all that is happening inside us, and he knows exactly how to help us, but we must surrender our days to him.
When we awaken each day, we should greet him with, “Good morning Holy spirit, what would you have me do today? Please lead, guide, and direct my footsteps throughout this day.” This demonstrates our humility and conveys we understand that we can’t make it without Your help. We need You desperately, Father. When we greet each new day this way, not only does it show honor to You, but it demonstrates our willingness to yield to Your plan, to allow YOU to be in control of our lives. You will not force us to comply with Your Will, because You’ve given us free-will choice. We must invite Your presence and power to intervene, and You are always willing and able to help us.
In Proverbs 18:21, Your Word tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. You have given every individual the choice to speak life into their situations, regardless of how things appear. We are to say what You say continually. Every day, we must confess Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” We must repeat Your promises back to You and declare verses like Deuteronomy 28:13, “I am the head and not the tail! I will be above only and not beneath!” We must remind ourselves continually of Psalm 18:2(NKJV) and confess, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” These are wonderful and beautiful promises to confess over our days, and You have told us to speak them, for they are the truth!
When Your Word is embedded in our hearts and minds, we become the very embodiment of what we believe. Thank You for fortifying us through Your Word, and thank You that it is a lamp to our feet. By living and walking according to Your Word, we submit to You and give You total control of our lives. Thank You for reminding us through Your precious Holy Spirit to wake up every morning with Your Word on our hearts and minds. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.■
