Dear Heavenly Father,
You are holy, good, and merciful to Your people. Thank You for loving and blessing us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through him, You have blessed us with all spiritual blessings. You tell us in Colossians 2:10 that we are complete through our union with Christ, who is the head over all there is. Through him, we lack no good thing. Please help us to grow in our understanding of this truth, so that we can walk with confidence and faith in our lives.
As the days pass, Dear Father, I must admit that although You have prepared us for these times, it is surprising what is happening. The chaos and confusion are increasing, but Your Word declares that You are forever faithful. You never change. You are the same yesterday and today, and Your goodness and mercy endure forever. So, we must not allow ourselves to be conformed to what everyone else is doing. We can’t allow fear to cripple us or anxiety to take over our lives. Instead, we must renew our minds to what You have said in Your Word. This is what You want for us, and it’s what You’ve commanded us to do.
I heard something in a movie the other day that really made me think. The character said, “A person has to choose their thoughts just like they choose what they will wear each morning.” Many people were taught that they can’t help the thoughts that pop into their minds. They believe they can’t control them, but Your Word teaches us in 2Corinthians 10:5(NIV), “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” You are teaching us to practice the discipline of training our minds by controlling how and what we think. You would not have told us to do this, if it were not possible to get it done.
We are responsible for our thoughts. In Philippians 4:8(ESV), You command, “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” This is how You think. It is the mind of Christ, and as Your children, this is the way You want us to think. Your goodness and blessings are something to be excited about. You are worthy of our highest and greatest thoughts and thinking about You and Your goodness empowers us with Your strength, peace, and faith.
We are in control of what comes in and out of our minds. This is why You tell us in Romans 12:2 that we should not be conformed to this world, but instead we are to allow You to transform us by changing the way we think. The devil wants our minds and hearts; this is what he’s after. But Colossians 1:13 declares that through Your goodness and mercy, You have rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, who purchased our freedom from sin and darkness. Thank You for being so good to us, Dear Father. Please help us to see that the quality of our lives is anchored in our faith in who You are, and You are good all the time.
We must begin to speak the positives of Your promises over our lives and surrender our whole day to You. Thank You, merciful Father, for taking total control as we are led by Your Spirit. We will partner with Your Will and Plan for our lives by renewing our minds to Your Word. We will put on thoughts of Your goodness continually so that we can hear Your voice and follow Your guidance. Thank You for Your many blessings, in the name of our powerful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
