Trust and Believe God

In the Gospel of Mark, the ninth chapter gives us the record of a man that had brought his son to Jesus Christ to be healed. Jesus Christ and his disciples, Peter, James, and John had been on the Mountain of Transfiguration where a tremendous encounter with Heavenly Father had taken place. So, initially, Jesus wasn’t there when the man and his son arrived, but the other disciples were, and there was quite the stir going on. When Jesus inquired about all the commotion, Mark 9:17-18(NLT) states, “One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”

Of course, the disciples were well-intentioned, but they couldn’t heal this man’s son. This record in Mark 9 is a depiction of the Kingdom of God for those of us living today. Our Master Jesus came to the earth to do the Will of God. He ministered. He healed. He had compassion on all people, and He loved everyone. At the time appointed, he gave his life on Calvary as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. 1John 4:10(NLT) declares, “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” And after our Savior died, in three days, God resurrected Christ from the dead, and Jesus Christ received a new body. One day when he returns to the earth, we, too, will receive a new body. 1Corinthians15:43-44(NLT), tells us, “Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.”

In our current times, we know that Jesus Christ has returned to the throne of our Heavenly Father and that is where he is today. His physical body has left the earth, and so have his apostles. The upheaval that Jesus Christ saw when he came down from the Mountain of Transfiguration is an image of what it will be when he returns to the earth to receive the body of Christ. We are witnessing it all around us. The world has gone mad in its sinfulness. Much of it is demon possessed, wicked, and full of evil. There is chaos and confusion everywhere and in every institution because so many have abandoned faith in God. They lack the patience, gratitude, and love to wait on Him, and to trust Him with all their hearts.

As the body of Christ, the world is looking for us. We should be well postured to pray effectively in the power and authority of Jesus Christ. This is where our focus should be now. It should be on growing in the Lord Jesus Christ so that we will not be as the disciples that were left behind were. They couldn’t cast out the evil spirit. Let it not be said of us.

As ambassadors for Christ, we ought to be able to help others through his love and power. Let it not be said that we are a faithless generation, as Jesus Christ said of those back then. We shouldn’t be so focused on the chaos of the world, and we certainly should not be joining in with it. Our call is to be lights in this dark world, and to represent Jesus Christ with everything we do, with every word we speak, and with every place we go. We must be steadfast in prayer and seek to do all we can to grow spiritually. We must be committed to increase our faith and trust in God, so that we will prove the words of our Master Jesus in Mark 9:23(NLT) when he said, “Anything is possible if a person believes.”■
