Does it seem to you that life feels out of place, unpredictable, even a bit out of order? You’re not alone, I’m feeling that way too. The circumstances and conditions of our current environment are nothing like any of us have seen before, and many of God’s people are feeling very uncomfortable. It can be especially challenging for single women, but we must always remember that we are the bride of Christ, and this comes before any other thing in life. People are feeling the pressure of uncertainty everywhere, but God has not changed. Regardless of what is going on in the earth, it’s all in God’s hands, and He is in complete and total control. As we are pressed to leave our comfort zones even more, understanding His sovereignty and trusting His power is the only way to remain joyfully in the safety of His blessings.
God is our solid and strong foundation and now, more than ever, we must cling to Him and cling to His Word. All of us are blessed to have life, air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat. God is our Sufficiency, and He has and continues to provide for us. As we grow and seek to go higher, we will inevitably want more of His blessings. Our hearts are yearning to express ourselves through His love in greater ways, and for many of us, this means getting married and having a significant person who walks with us through life. It’s no secret that this has been the prayer of many single women for a long time. Growing stronger in the Lord and standing firmer on His foundation must also be an important part of this prayer.
There are many other desires that we have, and regardless of what those desires are, God expects us to honor that the instruction, direction, and wisdom of His Word is perfect and fail-proof. So, trusting and believing what God says is important must hold a higher place than our own opinions and assumptions about what is important. We must honor His Word in a way that demonstrates our humility for His sovereignty and our honor for His omnipotence. God’s commitment is to see us grow in Christ, and the only way to grow in Christ is to know God’s Word. We will never escape this. It’s God’s requirement. 2Timothy 2:15 tells us that we must study in order to show that we are approved by God. We must be workers of God’s Word, and this means we have to be teachable, diligent, and patient.
Some people have a hard time with this. They don’t want to digest the truth about God’s requirements, but digesting it is crucial to seeing blessings manifest. Spiritual strength requires faith in God’s power, and Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ. In the modern times we’re living in, we’re bombarded with distractions from the world. Social media tantalizes our senses minute by minute, and we’ve developed a habit of expecting the next crazy or fantastical event to entertain us. This amounts to us having our minds trained by the world’s distractions rather than taking authority in Christ ourselves and training our minds to think according to God’s Word.
Do you see what the devil is doing there? It’s not hard to understand that the devil’s goal is to steal our power by stealing our thought-life and intelligence. If he succeeds, we will be like those in the Old Testament that wandered in the wilderness because they refused to mount up with faith and believing in God. They wanted the blessing that God had promised them. They wanted to wrap their hands around it lickety-split, but they refused to trust God’s Word. They would not renew their minds to it, and therefore lacked the strength spiritually and mentally to take possession of the promise. We shouldn’t allow this to be said of us.
With all the events in the world that are happening around us, God’s Word hasn’t wavered. But we must be sure that the handwriting is on the wall; we can no longer keep within our comfort zones. We want to wrap our hands around our blessing, but we won’t sufficiently wrap them around God’s Word. That’s not a workable strategy. Families and unity are very important to Heavenly Father, and He is not withholding the blessing of those treasures from His people. He’s prompting us to step into the dimension where blessings flow continually, and to do this, our minds and hearts must increase towards Him.
When we recognize that we have a need, our focus shifts away from what we currently have and on to what we don’t have. This is a very human inclination. The new desire that we’ve discovered is an expression of our soul’s desire to expand. We recognize that we need more in order to fully express who we are in Christ. If Jesus Christ had not told us that he came to this earth so that we could have life and have it more abundantly, then our expectations would remain tremendously low. We would be forced to accept our lot in life, and we would never strive to reach any higher. But because of him we know that God designed life to be abundant. We know that God gives us access to His riches and wealth, and we must do what He says in order for them to manifest in our lives.
Have confidence that God wants you to wrap your hands around your blessing more than you want it for yourself. He’s given us everything we need to make it happen. Jesus Christ taught in Luke 12:32(NIV), “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Heavenly Father has given us the keys to His Kingdom, it’s up to us to use them. He tells us in 1Corinthians 4:20(NLT), “For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.” We must live by God’s power, and the only way to achieve this is to live by His Word. When this is our commitment, we will live and operate from the unlimited overflow of His blessings. ■
