Dear Heavenly Father,
You are holy and magnificent! Everything that You do is good and perfect, and You alone are worthy of all praise and honor! It’s a privilege to be called Your sons and daughters, please help us to walk worthy of this call. We have made many mistakes, and we have all fallen short of Your grace. We could have done better but we didn’t. Please forgive us, Merciful Father. Forgive us for the things we have said, thought, felt, and done that were not in line with Your Will and Word. Please help us to be better.
Truly we are living in dark days, and we know that Your Son, Jesus Christ, is coming back soon. John 1 gives us the testimony of John the Baptist. He was the one You sent to proclaim the first coming of our Lord and Savior. He was a voice crying out in the wilderness, telling people to repent of their sins. You assigned him to prepare the hearts and minds of Your people to receive the Messiah. John 1:8-9(NLT) says, “John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” Jesus Christ came into the world to save us from our sin and to rescue us from the Kingdom of darkness, but during his first coming, even his own people rejected him. They would not accept him as the Son of the One True Living God. Please Father, help Your people living today to open their eyes so that they do not make the same mistake.
Please help Your people to continue to endure. We have become very impatient, wanting blessings on the double, and this simply isn’t the way faith works. In Colossians 1:11, You tell us that Your desire is for us to be spiritually strong in Christ, and this can only come through patience and endurance. We must prove that our faith in You is genuine. 1Corinthians 13:4(NLT) says, “Love is patient and kind.” You desire that we are patient and kind in our relationships with others, and we can do no less in our relationship with You.
During Old Testament times, Your people were waiting on the fulfillment of Your promises. You told them in Isaiah 60:22(NLT), “The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen.” This verse is a testament to the perfection of Your purpose, power, and timing. You can take the tiniest, infinitesimal thing, and expand it to such a degree that it cannot be numbered. You are awesome and amazing, and You never make a mistake.
Many of us have been waiting to see You move in our lives in a big way. Our circumstances and conditions are sometimes very uncomfortable. We think, “God is taking too long”, when the truth is that You are ALWAYS on time. Psalm 37:7(NLT) commands, “Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act.” We should never take matters into our own hands and try to force things to come together. This will almost always end in disappointment and a waste of our valuable time and resources. You command us to wait patiently on You because You always know best.
We make many mistakes by being impatient, but You are always so merciful to forgive us. Your patience with us is infinitely more than our commitment to patiently endure and wait on Your deliverance and blessings. We think that we are waiting on You, but in truth, You are waiting on us. You wait for us to be ready to love You through Jesus Christ the way You deserve. You wait for us to have faith in Your goodness and to stand firm on Your Word. And You wait for us to put on more of the example of Jesus Christ so that our whole lives are pleasing to You. Thank You for forgiving us for being impatient, Father. Please help us to change our ways and to occupy our time seeking, worshiping, and communing with You, because this is what You created us to do.
Help us to see that waiting on You is the very least that we can do considering all You have done for us. 2Peter 3:9(NLT) says, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” You are never slack or slow to fulfill Your promises, but we must understand that our repentance, spiritual maturity, and allegiance to the example of Christ comes first with You. Thank You for being so righteous and full of mercy and grace. Thank You for looking after us the way You do. You are so patient to wait on us to get it together. You command us to walk by faith and to grow in Your love, because our commitment to go higher in Christ is always in line with Your timing. Thank You for Your powerful and only begotten Son and thank You for Your precious Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.■
