Matthew 19:4-6(NLT)
4 “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” 5 And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”
As single women, we invest in books, seminars, dating websites, and more, for the sole purpose of meeting Mr. Right and getting married. Sometimes, these things can be helpful, but they can also complicate what God has made very simple in Matthew 19:4-6. In this passage, God has made sure we understand that He is the One who created both male and female. From the very beginning, He orchestrated His plan for how they should interact, come together, and conduct their relationship. He didn’t leave this to speculation. If a man desires a relationship with a woman, God has etched in stone that man’s responsibility. He is to leave the comfort of his father’s and mother’s home and join himself together with his wife. Our Heavenly Father couldn’t have made this any plainer for us.
The purpose of knowing God’s Word is to know His Will. It’s to know what pleases Him and what doesn’t. John 10:10 tells us that Jesus Christ came to the earth to make a more than abundant life available to everyone that desires it. He gave His life on Calvary as a sacrifice for our sins, and without his sacrifice, sin would have destroyed us. God has a reason for everything that He does. He has a reason for telling us the truths He’s placed in His Word. He tells us about the things that are right and wrong because it is beneficial to our happiness and safety to discern the two. Bad choices and wrong actions will injure us because they injure our relationship with God. He tells us to steer clear of wrong because He always wants what is best for our lives.
When Jesus Christ spoke the truth in Matthew 19:4-6, he did so to the Pharisees, and they had had no desire to hear the truth. They would not allow themselves to be taught by Christ, but this can never be a position that believers in him should take. God requires us to humble ourselves before Him and to be attentive to the Word He has spoken.
Loneliness and physical desire can create an opening for satan to trick us. Many of us avoid this truth, and we allow ourselves to become too influenced by the culture of the world. Instead of pressing into God through prayer, fasting, and meditating upon His Word, we try to involve the world in the plan that only God can orchestrate for us. Because we lack faith that our marriages are completely in His hands, we look for strategies and quick steps that have nothing to do with His holiness and purpose. Heavenly Father doesn’t make mistakes. All power is in His hands, and He didn’t need our assistance with coming up with His plan.
We should know that there is no detail of any believer’s life that He doesn’t know. You and I can’t force any element of God’s plan and purpose to come to pass. We must leave it all in His hands. In Matthew 7:7-8(NLT), Jesus teaches us, “7 Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” This passage instructs us about the importance of patience and persistence. Jesus Christ underscores our responsibility to go to GOD for what we need. He tells us to consistently and patiently ask, seek, and knock at God’s door of blessings, because He is sure to answer us.
God’s Word is the right instruction, and obeying it always delivers the right result. We must be ever so careful that we are not doubting this by asking, seeking, and knocking at the doors of the world’s systems to do for us what only God can. We must be disciplined, humbled, and patient enough to seek God in the way He requires. 2Corinthians 3:5(NKJV) states, “It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” Our Heavenly Father is everything to us, and Jesus Christ affirms in Matthew 7:11 that God knows more than anyone how to bless His kids. Let’s remember this always, so that we are not trapped and tricked by satan. God requires that we seek Him with all that we are so that our faith is increased, and we prove that our love for Him is the greatest blessing of our lives.■
