Romans 12:2(ESV) tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This verse makes God’s expectation clear. We’re not to allow the world’s culture or traditions to conform us. Instead, we must be transformed in our minds, so that we can know God’s perfect Will and walk in it. Many of us are facing a season that is crucial to our journey upward. For those of us that desire to go higher in Christ, it’s a season for newness, a season for truth, a season for letting go and a season for growth. In other words, we’re in a season of transformation, and it will require us to change the way we think and remain close to God so that we go where He leads.
When I was in my early twenties, I was just beginning to feed my heart and mind with God’s Word. The more of His Word that I put on in my mind and heart, the more I understood that the outcomes of life will follow our believing. If we don’t guard our minds and hearts, and if we’re not careful about what goes in them and what comes out of them, it will feel as though life is not cooperating with us. The truth is that we’re not cooperating with God’s desire to see us grow. We’re looking at this season of transformation from the outside in, when the real action of transformation first happens within.
Some of us desperately want our outer reality to change. We want greater blessings, and we want things to come together for us beautifully. The truth that God demonstrates continually in His Word is that before the outside can change, the inside must change. Transformation will always begin with you.
In Galatians 2:20(ESV), the Apostle Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” This verse contains the solution to our questions about being spiritually prepared for marriage. In the past, some of us have suffered heartbreaks and loneliness. We were not always treated the way God’s daughters should be treated, and we are still holding on to that wounded woman that was sad and undervalued.
Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us from sin. Our old lives of sin, loneliness, and heartbreak was crucified with Christ. It died. When he got up on that third day with all power in his hands, we got up with him. 2Corinthians 5:17(ESV) declares, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” The work that you and I are responsible for doing is to line up our minds and hearts with the Word of God so we can live by faith in Christ.
God doesn’t allow us to put the cart before the wheel. He hears our prayers about marriage and crossing paths with the one He has ordained. He knows our hearts and how much we desire this, and you best believe He’s watching how you move in this season of transformation. It’s the season where you must recognize that God is requiring you to walk closer to the example of Jesus Christ, and He’s watching the steps you take to do just that. Walk as though you’re confident you’re moving into a season of answered prayer and greater blessings. Do the work of praying, studying, and staying close to God. When you do, you’ll be amazed by the transformation you’ve made and the blessings you’ve received because of it. ■
