God Will Not Forget You

My daughter’s birthday is Groundhog Day. Sometimes, she gets a kick out of hearing what the prediction will be; six more weeks of winter or six more weeks before spring arrives. According to the tradition, if the ol’ groundhog shows its face on that day and sees its shadow, folks predict that it’s going to be six more weeks of winter. Of course, this is a fictional sign of weather seasons, and it’s all in fun, but when it comes to signs that point to the end of season for our single status, now that’s a serious matter. Many single women feel like they are waiting year after year without results. They want a sign from God to let them know if it will be six weeks, six months, or six more years before this season of living single is finally over.

Through His prophet Isaiah, God told His people in Isaiah 49:15(ESV), “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” God will not forget those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. This promise isn’t one we can take lightly, nor can we think about it casually. The reality that we are continually on the mind of God must be deeply anchored within us, because it is the basis of our faith in Him.

How long have you been praying to cross paths with your future husband? In all that time, have you doubted that God would not bring this blessing to pass in your life? Or have you held tightly to your faith as Jesus Christ commands. We can’t claim to honor God’s Word, yet when the rubber meets the road, we overlook it. That’s not going to work. God means for us to practice Godliness everyday of our lives. Through the Apostle Paul, in 1Timothy 6, our Heavenly Father tells us to be content in the blessings He’s given us and to run from evil people, temptations, and desires. In verse 11, He commands us to pursue righteousness and a Godly life, and to pursue faith, love, perseverance, and kindness.

God encourages us in 1Timothy 6:12 to fight the good fight of faith. For us to fight the good fight, we must be armored up with the spiritual weapons of God. He’s given us His Word, salvation, righteousness, the example of Christ, and the indwelling Holy Spirit. He tells us in Ephesians 6:12(NLT),Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” We must be spiritually prepared for life, and we must do this by clothing ourselves daily with God’s armor and provision. Then, according to His perfect timing, we will be spiritually prepared for the presentation of a spouse.

Continually praying about marriage and thinking about it while we pray is helpful, but to fight the good fight of faith, we must focus on God and have faith in His goodness. Many of us are so one-tracked about marriage that we’re side tracking God and our relationship with Him. We have to fix this before we can move forward. Making the Lord Jesus a priority only when it’s convenient for our schedules will not meet God’s requirement.

If you were accused of not being a Christian and taken into a court of law, would there be enough evidence in your life to prove your Christian status? Oh, we can prove our single status. The absence of an engagement ring, the many weddings we’ve attended alone, the many dinners we’ve cooked for one, the lack of closet space at our place, the lack of spiritual preparation to take on the care and support of another. All these are a testimony to our single status, but what’s the testimony of our Godliness? The answer to this will always tell the true story about our love and honor for God.

We’re doing the same things we’ve always done, yet we expect to see a different outcome. That’s not rational. Once you really make up in your mind to trust God and take Him at His Word, there’s no turning back. When we are anchored in faith, we will never doubt God’s willingness to give us the desires of our hearts. When we truly know His Word and trust His promises, we will cut it out with all these stops and starts. It’s time to grow up in the Lord, to serve Him and love Him with our whole lives.

We don’t need a sign that our single season is over because God has given us His Word, and that’s all we will ever need. God doesn’t predict. He speaks, He promises, and He gives us prophesy through His Word. Everything God says is true, and His truth will never fail. When He speaks, it’s a done deal, and it has already happened in the spiritual realm. He’s not making up things as we go along. He has already worked it out, and we must trust this. So, make a greater commitment to renew your mind to God’s Word by studying it and applying it to your life. God has not forgotten you or the marriage you desire. Right now, He is helping you to prepare. Open your eyes to what He is doing. Pray without ceasing, and humble yourself before God. Commit from this day forward to do everything possible to cooperate with His plan for your life.■
