Psalms 125:1 (NLT)
“Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.”
It’s no secret the times are perilous, and it feels like danger and destruction are hitting closer and closer to home. We might be tempted to feel that there’s no safe place for us to land, but God’s Word tells us this isn’t so. The psalmist said in Psalm 62:6-7(NLT), “6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.” As God’s children, our trust must be only in Him. He’s our strength and stability, and rather than focusing on the problems and issues of our lives and the world, we need to keep our minds focused on our Heavenly Father. He’s our Rock, and He will never let us down.
Most of us are busier than we ever imagined. When we’re not busy with self-care, the care of others, and our own personal agendas, many of us spend our down time on social media or other entertainment. Ultimately, life will reveal how desperately we need God, and that our greatest mistake in life is to dedicate more time to other things than we spend time with Him.
Psalm 135:6-7(NLT) tells us, “6 The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. 7 He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses.” There’s so much troubling news that whenever we turn on the television, we’re waiting to hear the next bad thing. It’s disheartening and overwhelming at times to witness the wickedness in people’s hearts, but God instructs His children not to allow our faith to be affected. We’re not to be rocked by what we see. Our Heavenly Father is in control forever and always. He controls everything, and He’s so perfect and His Will is so brilliant that nothing any of us can do will alter His Will from moving forward in just the way He has decreed in His Word.
Just about all of us are experiencing challenges in our lives to some degree or another. Whether it’s connected to family, health, finances, jobs, careers or relationships, many individuals feel overwhelmed and confused. We’re shaking our heads because we never imagined that we’d find ourselves facing all this, but we must not give up. Instead, we must remember that there is a difference between being stuck in hard times and going through hard times. As children of God and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, we’re going through some things but we’re coming out on the other side, and we’ll be wiser, stronger, and standing more firmly on our faith in God.
The psalmist said in Psalms 31:5(NLT), “I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.” Yes, the world is a perilous place, but our Heavenly Father is our Rescue, and He is faithful to those who honor Him and His Word. Even before our feet hit the ground, we must pray and surrender each day to the Holy Spirit. To humble ourselves before God, our attitude must be, “Not my will but Your Will be done in my life. Let it be done here on earth as it is in Heaven.” When we begin to yield to God in this way, we will see a difference in our prayer lives and level of confidence. We won’t be rocked or shaken by what we see happening. Instead, we will remain focused on God and keep our eyes continually on Him. He is our shield and protection, and no matter what is going on in the world, we must hold tightly to our faith and know that He is keeping us safe. ■
