2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 is a simple verse, but it is packed to the brim and running over with wisdom, strategy, and guidance for a successful Christian life. To walk by faith is to live by faith. It’s to believe and trust God for the best in every situation and detail of life. This kind of believing goes beyond what our physical eyes can see. For instance, consider a single woman that desperately wants to be married but hasn’t been focused on increasing her faith. It is entirely possible that she has already crossed paths with the man that God has ordained to walk with her through life. Perhaps he’s seen her in church, or at the grocery store or gym. She caught his eye, and he’s aware of her existence, but she can’t see him. Her eyes are still blinded by her lack of faith.
“I feel like it’s never going to happen to me. I’ve been waiting so long to get married.” When the loneliness seems too much to bear, this is the cry of many of us that have been single longer than we’d like, but God has not forgotten us. He tells us to have faith, and many of us have underestimated what it takes to hold faith in our hearts and minds unwaveringly until the blessing manifests. God isn’t in heaven withholding blessings from any of us. Ephesians 1:3(ESV) tells us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” When we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, God gave us access to every spiritual blessing, and by this we must know that every blessing is indeed spiritual. So, the partner we so earnestly desire is part of this beautiful package.
God continually roots for us to learn more about Jesus Christ so that our faith will grow, and we can be spiritually ready to steward the blessings we desire. Jesus Christ said in Mark 11:22-24(NLT), “22 Have faith in God. 23 I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. 24 I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.” When our faith is firmly planted in God, Jesus Christ makes it clear that the miraculous will happen. Our issue is that sometimes we’re not quite there in our minds and hearts with having faith in God.
Many of us mistakenly think that our minds will automatically move to a higher level of believing without new revelation and understanding of God’s Word. Romans 10:17(ESV) tells us, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” We can’t think any ol’ kind of thoughts and think that faith will come. Our minds must be renewed to what God says in His Word. He commands us in Philippians 2:5(NKJV), “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” This is not a suggestion. This is a commandment of God and He expects us to get it done.
1John 5:4(NLT) tells us, “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.” Our faith in God keeps us in His Will and on the path of His blessings. And there is no doubt about how much of a blessing it is to walk through life with the man that God has sent. Our Heavenly Father desires it for us way more than we can ever desire it for ourselves. He wants us to be a treasure to our future husbands, and He wants them to be a treasure to us. He’s told us in His Word how to make this our reality. We must make our relationship with Him our greatest priority, and we must prove this to our Heavenly Father by sharpening ourselves and renewing our minds to His Word. This is required for the fully developed faith that we all need for a lasting and beautiful union.■
