Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
God tells us in His Word that blessings increase their flow when we become sold out in our hearts and minds that what God says He will do, He will do. This attitude and mindset equal a renewed mind. It’s a mind that is anchored in faith and motivated to hear God’s voice and to do what He says. This is essential for singles that are praying to cross paths with the person God has ordained to walk with them through life. God’s Word affirms that He is not withholding the blessing of marriage from us. As soon as we prayed for our husbands to show up, we can rest in the comfort that this blessing began its route towards us. So, it’s never about God withholding the blessing of marriage. It’s always a matter of having our eyes spiritually open so we don’t miss it.
Our Heavenly Father knows how much partnering in marriage means to us. He understands that it is a deep desire, and He wants us to be happily married. He wants our husbands to be as much of a blessing to us as we will be to them, but often there’s some internal things that we need to address. We’re saying that we’re ready for marriage, but the things in our hearts and minds are broadcasting a different message.
Romans 2:19-23(NLT) offers us wisdom that helps us to put ourselves in check. This passage says, “19 You are convinced that you are a guide for the blind and a light for people who are lost in darkness. 20 You think you can instruct the ignorant and teach children the ways of God. For you are certain that God’s law gives you complete knowledge and truth. 21 Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? 22 You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples? 23 You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it.”
Many of us know what is right and wrong according to God’s Word. We know enough to understand what pleases Him and what doesn’t please Him, yet we do the things that do not please Him anyway. This is an issue of the heart because it means that we are not humbling ourselves under God’s sovereignty in all the ways that we should. He doesn’t punish us for this. If we will do as Jesus Christ commands in Hebrews 11:6 and seek God first in all things, He will lead and help us remain on the path of His blessings.
Many of us have endured heartache in our past relationships. We put our everything into them and gave our hearts to men that were not able to reciprocate the depth of our devotion and commitment. We got hurt, and our Heavenly Father doesn’t want us to be hurt again. He wants us to be wiser and stronger than we were before. In the past, we were not in a position to recognize and discern the right person for our lives. We thought we knew enough about the Word to make a good choice, but we didn’t, and somehow the enemy came through an opening and deceived us. We can prevent this from happening in the future if we change our minds and hearts, and make sure we follow God’s Word in a greater way.
To meet His expectation, we must get into position through faith, humility, and prayer. He holds us dear to His heart and wants the very best for us. Don’t become impatient. God is helping you to get into position for what you desire most. He told His people in Deuteronomy 11:18(NLT), “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders.” This is the level of dedication and commitment He requires from us as well. So, let’s reaffirm our loyalty to God and allow Him to steer every detail of our desire for marriage. Only then can we be confident that we are in the right spiritual position to meet and recognize the man God sends. ■
