Now is Not the Time to Be Comfortable

One day, while waiting at a red light in my car, I observed a woman crossing a busy intersection, completely absorbed in her cell phone. It was a stark reminder that we can never afford to take anything for granted. In the rush of daily life, it’s all too easy to become distracted and let our guard down. However, this is precisely when we need to remain vigilant, especially in our spiritual lives.

Revelation 3:2 (NLT) admonishes us to “2 Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God. 3 Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.”  These words serve as a wake-up call from our glorious Lord, reminding us not to become complacent. We must actively work to strengthen our relationship with Him, keeping it at the forefront of our minds and hearts.

Even with our eyes wide open, many of us are asleep at the wheel, unaware of the spiritual battles raging around us. This state of unawareness is precisely what the adversary capitalizes on. When we’re not actively conscious of the spiritual warfare happening every moment, we become vulnerable targets.

God issues a stark warning through the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT): “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” This reminder stresses the very real threat posed by the devil, who constantly seeks to undermine and destroy us. We can’t afford to sleep on our surroundings, because the adversary never does. Just as a lion stalks its prey, the devil is relentless in his pursuit. Therefore, we must remain vigilant, keeping our spiritual senses sharp and our guard up at all times. We do this by staying in God’s Word, praying often, and seeking His counsel in the choices and decisions we make.

As single Christian women, we can become too comfortable with habit patterns that keep us stagnant in our faith and open us up to heartbreak. We must be aware that our emotional well-being is a prime target for the enemy, who often seeks to derail us from God’s plans by using the wrong relationships. It’s crucial for us to recognize this tactic and resist the urge to rush into relationships impulsively.

Our eyes must be open to this trick, and rather than acting impetuously, diving heart first into relationships, we must seek God’s guidance and wisdom in matters of the heart. For some reason, many of us have convinced ourselves that God will not lead and guide us in this area of our lives, but that’s not true. Despite any doubts we may have, we must remember that God cares deeply about every aspect of our lives, including our relationships. He reminds us in Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT), “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

This verse reminds us that God has a perfect plan for our lives, including our relationships. We can trust Him to lead us to the right person at the right time. It’s essential to embrace this truth wholeheartedly and lean on God’s wisdom as we navigate the complexities of relationships. He knows who is right for us, and this is a truth we must accept with all our hearts.

The times are perilous and now is not a time to be comfortable. Don’t walk into a potentially dangerous situation blindly. It’s crucial to exercise caution in choosing who you spend your time with, especially when it comes to dating. Many people dive heart first into relationships without considering whether the other person can contribute positively to their lives, and most importantly, to their relationships with God through Jesus Christ. Take the time to truly get to know someone before opening up emotionally.

Above all, seek God’s guidance through prayer before investing your heart in a relationship. Ask for His wisdom and discernment to ensure that you’re aligning with His plans for your life. Remain vigilant and alert, recognizing that your life is precious and deserving of careful consideration. Remember, you only have one opportunity to live your life on this earth. By actively pursuing God’s Will and staying attuned to His guidance, you can find peace of mind knowing that you’re on the right path. Trust that as you do your part, God will faithfully fulfill His promises and lead you toward His best for your life. ■
