The Activity of God

Ecclesiastes 11:5 (NLT) “Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.” This verse really drives home how mysterious and beyond our grasp God’s work can be. Just like we can’t always predict which way the wind will blow or fully grasp how a baby develops in the womb; we can’t completely understand the activity of our brilliant, magnificent God. His ways and purposes are far beyond our grasp. This means that while we may not always see or understand the reasons behind what happens in our lives or in the world, it doesn’t mean God isn’t at work. Instead, it’s a reminder that God operates on a whole different level from ours; it surpasses our limited perspective. Even when we don’t see the whole picture or understand why things are happening, it’s a call to trust in His wisdom and sovereignty.

I once heard a seasoned believer say, “Folks don’t value marriage as much as they used to. But no matter if people become as fickle as the wind – God hasn’t changed.” This insight hits home: while human values and commitments might shift over time, God’s nature and His work stay the same. In a world where what’s popular or important seems to change all the time, it’s easy to feel unsettled. But the Bible reminds us that God is constant. As He tells us in Malachi 3:6(NLT), “I am the Lord, and I do not change.” This means that no matter how much things around us change, God’s character and His promises remain rock-solid. So, even when society’s values seem all over the place, we can find stability and reassurance in the truth that God’s nature is unchanging, and His plans are absolute, infallible, and trustworthy.

It’s important to remember that God’s standards are unwavering and cannot be altered by changing trends or societal shifts. Even though we might not always understand His ways or the reasons behind His commands, the standards He has set in His Word are designed for our ultimate good. In Psalm 119:160 (NLT), it says, “The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever.” This verse reminds us that God’s principles are based on truth and justice, and they are meant to guide us toward a fulfilling and righteous life. While our understanding might be limited and our situations may change, God’s standards remain perfect and unchanging. They are not just rules but a reflection of His wisdom and love for us, ensuring that His ways are always the best path for our lives.

Single Christians often wonder why their situation hasn’t changed and may question what’s holding up their blessing. But God is not only capable of handling your questions, He welcomes them. As James 1:5 (NLT) says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” This verse reminds us that God is always ready to provide guidance and insight when we seek Him.

There will be times when being single feels overwhelming, and you might feel alone, but God is with you. Romans 8:28 (NLT) tells us that He causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose.” We can have tremendous confidence in this truth. The activity of God never ceases; He never makes a mistake and all power and wisdom belong to Him. Trust that as you remain faithful to God’s standards, He will shower you with His promises and overwhelm you with joy by all that He has in store for your life. ■
