Life can sometimes feel like a confusing maze, where it seems like rules don’t matter and actions go unnoticed. Many people wander through this world believing they can act without consequence, thinking that they can do harm without facing any repercussions. But let’s be real: that’s not how life works. Our Heavenly Father has established perfect laws and principles that govern our existence, and everything we do—good or bad—will inevitably come back to us. Just as a farmer reaps what he sows, so do we. The choices we make today are seeds that will bloom into our future.
Jesus spoke about this beautifully when he urged us to store up treasures in heaven. In Matthew 6:19-20 (NLT), he reminds us, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.” When we choose to follow his example, treating others with the love and compassion he demonstrated, we’re laying up treasures that will last for eternity. Every act of kindness, every moment of forgiveness, and every instance of love becomes a treasure with our name on it. Not only will they be claimed in glory, but the boomerang effect of good on earth will always cause blessings to land in our lives.
But let’s not fool ourselves. In Galatians 6:7 (NLT), we read, “Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.” This verse cuts deep, reminding us that we will receive what we deserve. Are we truly laying up treasures, or are we hoarding the wrong kinds? If we allow selfishness, bitterness, and arrogance to simmer beneath the surface, we’re not just missing out on the treasures God has for us; we’re actively working against our own harvest. It’s time to evaluate what we’re planting in our lives and whether it aligns with God’s plan and purpose for us.
Renewing our minds is crucial if we want to unlock the full potential of this gift called life. We need to align our thoughts with what God says about us and what He expects from us. Romans 12:2 (NLT) calls us to “not conform to the patterns of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” When we set our sights on understanding His Will—embracing love, kindness, and integrity—we start to plant seeds that will yield a bountiful harvest.
Sometimes, though, we find ourselves sabotaging our own efforts. Life has a way of teaching us lessons, often through the tough situations we face. Those moments can sting, but they also illuminate the consequences of our poor choices, giving us an opportunity to grow and change. It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t seem to align with our expectations. We might even wonder if our efforts are in vain. Yet, remember that God is faithful, and the seeds we sow in faith will not go unnoticed.
In James 2:26 (NLT), we are reminded, “Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.” Engaging in the good works God has called us to is how we breathe life into our faith. It’s how we set ourselves up to receive the kind of harvest we’ve been praying for. The key is to act—taking tangible steps toward the purpose God has laid out for us, sharing the Good News about Christ every opportunity we have, trusting that our efforts will bear fruit in due time.
So, let’s make a commitment today to sow seeds of goodness, to be an effective witness of the Gospel, and to embody the love and compassion of Christ in every interaction. The harvest is not just a future promise; it’s a present reality waiting to unfold. Every act of kindness you perform, every moment of grace you extend, contributes to a treasure trove in heaven that cannot be taken away. You will have a harvest, child of God. Trust the process, keep your heart open to the Father, and watch as He brings forth a bountiful return in your life. ■
