God Didn’t Look the Other Way

What happens when someone starts making excuses for accepting the bare minimum from others because their life feels dull or hopeless? It’s something that can happen to anyone. For example, someone might feel a spark of hope after just a few interactions with someone new—maybe a few conversations or some attention that makes them feel seen. Even if they don’t really know the person, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of being noticed, especially if it’s been a while since they’ve felt confident or experienced the thrill of dating. The need for attention and validation can feel really strong when life has been lonely or uninspiring.

Sometimes, people take a totally unorthodox approach and jump into things their own way—maybe a little rusty, but full of courage. They go for it, thinking they can make it work, even if they’re ignoring the usual advice about not settling for crumbs. It’s easy to admire their boldness, but sometimes they skip the one thing that could really make a difference: taking a step back and waiting for the right guidance.

When you’ve been waiting a while to meet the right person or see things fall into place, it’s easy to start thinking that God isn’t paying attention, or that maybe He’s just forgotten about you. This mindset can creep in, especially during those lonely moments of doubt and frustration. Whether you’re waiting for the right relationship, a job opportunity, or just a breakthrough in life, it can start to feel like nothing is happening. And when things aren’t going the way we hoped, it’s tempting to take matters into our own hands. We might settle for something we think will work or try to force things to happen. But when we do that, we miss out on God’s perfect timing and the better plans He has for us.

Our sinful thoughts and actions disrupt the closeness we have with God, but He never turns His back on us. Romans 8:38 (NLT) reminds us that nothing—absolutely nothing—can separate us from God’s love: “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.” So, the problem isn’t that God has turned His back on us, but that we often let doubt and fear get in the way. These are the things that slow us down and keep us from fully trusting Him.

The key is getting back to basics—remembering that God is still at work, even when we can’t see the whole picture. As Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT) reminds us, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” His Word shows us how to live in a way that keeps us open to His blessings and in step with His plan. We don’t need to complicate things or rush ahead of Him. Trusting His timing and staying focused on Him is all we really need.

It’s surprising how many of God’s daughters find themselves in situations that disrupt His plan for their lives. Even if you’re not fully aware of what’s happening around you, it’s important to pay attention to what’s going on inside of you. If your prayer is for God to bless you with someone who will honor, love, and protect you, then trust God’s process rather than blocking it.

Now is the time to start transforming the way you think, so your vision aligns with God’s. 2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches us that we need to take captive every thought that doesn’t line up with God’s Word. Proverbs 21:2 (NIV) reminds us, “A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.” This verse shows us that while we may think we know what’s best for us, only God sees the truth. He knows our hearts and our true intentions, and He understands what’s truly best for us.

Old habits, old thought patterns, and the way we’ve always done things can stop us from experiencing everything God has for us. They can keep us stuck in one place, preventing our spiritual growth. That’s why it’s so important to ask God daily to help you become the person He created you to be—and to allow Him to transform you from the inside out. Remember, God hasn’t turned His back on you. He sees you; He loves you, and He’s working everything out for your good. Trust His timing, trust His process, and find peace in knowing He’s got a good plan for your life.■
