Isaiah 44:3 (NLT) says, “For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.” This verse was God’s promise to the Israelites during a time when they had allowed themselves to become spiritually dry, like a field in desperate need of rain. They were longing for renewal, for God to come through and revive them. And just as a dry field is refreshed when it receives the rain it desperately needs, God promised to pour out His Spirit to revive and restore their hearts. This wasn’t just about physical water—it was about the deep, soul-quenching restoration that only God can bring.
For many single women, the desire for marriage can feel just as deep, just as unquenchable. The wait can seem endless, and disappointment can set in when the dreams of a loving relationship haven’t yet come to pass. It’s easy to feel like you’re in a dry season, wondering if God sees your longing or if He’s forgotten about you. Maybe you’ve been waiting for what feels like forever, and it feels like nothing is happening. The thirst for love, for companionship, can feel overwhelming at times, especially when it seems like others are finding what you’ve been waiting for.
It’s so easy to be tempted by the things of this world—online dating, fleeting relationships, or a deceptive feeling of closeness—thinking that these things will satisfy our longing. But entering into a relationship without direction, or without God’s divine wisdom, can end up wasting your time, energy, and emotional resources. This is why it’s so important to wait on God’s timing, to trust that He has a plan for you, and that what He has ordained is worth the wait.
Prayer and fasting are powerful tools that can help guide us in the right direction and help us be patient while God works. We know that anything worth having requires hard work and patience—and this is especially true for the right relationship. There’s a temptation to rush ahead, to settle for what’s convenient or feels good in the moment. But true fulfillment comes from waiting on God, trusting that He is working in the background to bring about the best for your life. Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) reminds us, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
Here’s what we need to remember: just like God promised to quench the thirst of the Israelites, He promises to satisfy the deepest desires of our hearts too. He knows what you’re longing for, and He sees you in the waiting. When we try to fill that emptiness with anything other than Him—whether it’s rushing into a relationship that isn’t right or seeking quick fixes that don’t bring lasting fulfillment—it’s like trying to drink from a well that’s dry. But when we trust God and wait for His timing, He will refresh us in ways that are beyond what we can imagine. Psalm 107:9 (NLT) says, “For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” The Lord is the One who can truly satisfy our thirst, filling us up with the love, peace, and fulfillment we long for.
God is doing a new thing in your life. Every experience you’ve had along the way—whether joyful or painful—is preparing you for what He’s about to do. Your past does not define your future, and the mistakes or disappointments you’ve faced do not determine your worth. What God has for you is greater than anything you’ve experienced so far. Wait on Him, and you will find the peace and love you seek. He is the one who will quench your thirst and lead you to the fulfillment of His promises.
As you wait on God, trust that He is preparing the right person, the right season, and He has the right plan for your life. His timing is perfect. And when the right moment comes, you will say with joy in your heart, and unwavering confidence and conviction, “This was well worth the wait!” ■
