Genesis 2:18 (NLT) tells us “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.” When we read this verse, we might make the mistake of thinking that God decided right there on the spot to make a helper for the first man, Adam. However, that would not be accurate. It was always God’s plan for Adam and Eve to be two distinct individuals who would become one through His love. Our Heavenly Father is all about love and unity. That’s what He wanted for Adam and Eve, and that’s what He wants for us as well.
Because of all that God accomplished through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, humanity has advanced far beyond what any of us could have imagined. Our Creator made us in His very own image, and we are intelligent, thinking spiritual beings who are capable of great depth and expression. We consider ourselves to be advanced and sophisticated, and on many levels, this is a good thing. However, it can become a destructive mindset when we allow arrogance to convince us that God’s Word doesn’t apply to our modern times.
Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) tells us, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” This verse reveals that God’s incredible power is working on the inside of us, and His wonder-working power is able to accomplish far beyond our greatest prayer requests and desires. The technological and scientific advances of our modern era stand as a testimony of this truth. We are exceedingly blessed, yet most take this for granted, attributing these achievements solely to human intellect and skill, rather than recognizing it’s all because of God.
Our sophisticated mindset has coaxed many of us to assume that technology will cancel the need to lean on His Word and Will, thinking that apps and the click of a button will grant us the opportunities we desire most. This isn’t the solution to being alone. It’s a mindset that takes us further away from God and can very easily lead us on a path to destruction. The wisdom of Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” No matter how advanced our technology becomes, it cannot replace the need for God’s direction. Our success, peace, and purpose are found when we rely on His wisdom.
The solution to being alone is a spiritual one. We can’t find it in devices of convenience or in quick fixes. In truth, we are never alone because God’s Holy Spirit lives within us. Our feelings tell us that this reality isn’t enough, and that we need something more to make us whole and complete. While Genesis 2:18 makes it clear that God desires our marital unions with the person He ordains, we do not need this in order to be whole. Colossians 2:10 declares that we are complete through our union with Christ, and no one else.
So, the bottom line is that our minds must be renewed to what God says and not what our emotions or thoughts tell us. Some of us might hear this and be troubled. One of the reasons for this is that all of us want what we want when we want it, but our faith in God is the star of this role. It is increased through patience and endurance, and this will forever be the gateway to opportunities and breakthroughs. Being patient and waiting are the complete opposite of the temporary distractions or solutions technology can offer. It is only through waiting on the Lord and aligning our hearts with His Will that we experience the deep and rewarding blessings we’ve prayed to receive. ■
