I Still Dare to Hope

As sisters in Christ, we should remember to keep those who are emotionally hurting in our prayers. A harsh break-up can be one of the toughest emotional battles to face, and many women of faith are heartbroken and really going through it. It’s especially difficult when you’ve invested so much of yourself into a relationship, believing it was moving toward something serious. When things fall apart unexpectedly, it can leave you questioning your faith. Things feel uncertain and overwhelming, but it’s crucial to remember that a failed relationship doesn’t define your future. No matter how painful the situation, there is always hope to be found in God’s promises. If you trust wholeheartedly in Him, you will love again—wiser, stronger, and better.

Dealing with a broken heart, it can be easy to feel like hope is slipping away. But we must remember God’s powerful words in Lamentations 3:21-23 (NLT): “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” No matter what we face—heartbreak, disappointment, or uncertainty—God’s love and mercy are steadfast. And even in our most difficult moments, we can dare to hope because of His faithfulness.

For many single Christians, the journey to marriage can feel exhausting, especially after investing so much into relationships that don’t work out. Loneliness can drive us to despair, and our desires for marriage sometimes feel as if they’ll never materialize, but as believers, we must hold onto a Kingdom mindset. When you accept Jesus Christ, you become a citizen of God’s Kingdom, which means the true desires of our hearts are never a hopeless cause. The Father’s plans for you are good, and no matter the setbacks, you are never alone. It’s all about how and what you choose to believe. We have the free will to shape our response to life’s challenges, and our hardship is often a tool God employs to help us become who He’s called us to be and to deepen our relationship with Him.

Through His Word, God provides the wisdom we need to navigate every situation, including our emotional and relationship struggles. As we read, often it’s like we can hear the Lord’s voice speaking through those powerful verses of scriptures that infuse us with life and clarity. Relationships, though sometimes painful, reveal where we are in our walk with God. They expose areas where we need growth and maturity, helping us recognize where we may be placing too much focus on what we lack—like the relationship we desire. But we have to remember that a failed relationship is not a reflection of our identity in Christ. As John 10:27 (NLT) reminds us, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” When we make a shift and listen attentively to God’s voice, we regain clarity and understand that our true worth is found in Him, not in any relationship or circumstance.

Often, we lack the wisdom to avoid certain heartaches, but we can trust that God is never punishing us. He desires peace and righteousness for His children. When we don’t listen to His guidance, we may make choices that lead to heartache, but God doesn’t stand by and watch us suffer. Instead, He lovingly comforts and corrects us. Healing begins when we humble ourselves under His guidance and truth. As Jesus says in John 8:47 (NLT): “Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God.” When we open our hearts to God’s voice, we begin to heal and grow wiser. I’ve learned the hard way that becoming too absorbed in another person can drown out God’s voice. We need to keep our faith anchored in the Father’s love, so that in the future, we’ll make wiser choices and grow in wisdom to move forward in a way that honors Him. ■
