What Kind of Power Do You Have?

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

In His Word, our Heavenly Father makes it clear that He delights in blessing His people. He specializes in doing far more than we could ever imagine. He goes beyond our wildest prayers, dreams, or hopes. But here’s the part we can’t overlook: this kind of increase happens according to his power that is at work within us. This means that the potential is already in us. That happened once we gave our lives to Christ, and we were filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:3 (NLT) tells us that He hasblessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” We’re overflowing with spiritual power, and our willingness to walk in faith and obedience helps us to embrace it fully.

God has placed everything we need to live a powerful life inside us, but the degree to which this power is activated is up to us. It’s waiting on your yes—your commitment to walk in step with what He’s already doing.

Before we ever asked, He had already blessed us. That’s an amazing truth! Every spiritual resource we could ever need—peace, wisdom, strength, grace—it’s already been made available to us in Christ. We’re not waiting on a blessing to fall from heaven, the Christian journey is about learning how to walk in what’s already ours. We’ve received access to everything heaven has to offer. But again, just like in Ephesians 3:20, there’s a key. These blessings are experienced as we stay united with Him. This union is where the flow happens.

Obedience to God might feel hard sometimes—and for many believers, it’s not because they don’t love God, it’s because they don’t know enough of His truth. As the saying goes, “the more knowledge you have, the more power you have access to.” When we lack spiritual understanding, we unknowingly limit what God can do in and through us. That’s why it’s in our best interest—not just for today, but for our future—to soak up all the knowledge and wisdom the Holy Spirit makes available. The more we know, the more space we give God to move in our lives.

Hebrews 2:1(NLT) says, “So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” This awesome wisdom comes right after some serious truth in the preceding chapter, where we receive powerful truths about who Jesus Christ is: He’s the Son of God, the radiance of God’s glory, and far greater than angels. He’s seated at the place of highest honor in heaven, and everything God wants to say to new covenant believers in this era, He is saying through Jesus. Since Jesus is supreme, our beloved Lord and Savior, the living Word of God, we can’t take His message lightly. We can’t treat the Gospel like background noise, but we must pay close attention.

Drifting away from God’s truth is a very real possibility; many have done it. Often, it doesn’t happen all at once, but slowly, through distractions and doubt. Hebrews 2:1 is a warning that calls us to maturity, where we’re exercising God’s power because we’ve nurtured our minds and hearts with His Word. Knowing the truth is how our power is activated. It’s the kind of power that is unlimited when our commitment is to please God and walk in His purpose.

Many of us desire relationships that are healthy, loyal, and flourishing in God’s blessings. These require a foundation, and it is our responsibility to make it strong. This foundation is built through spending time with the Father, staying in His Word, and listening carefully to His truth; that’s how we let Him shape how we live and love. We’re never disappointed when we stay anchored in what God has said. We won’t be so easily swayed by life’s storms or the lies of the enemy. Don’t give-in to doubt or do anything to hinder the power God has given you. It’s going to work out in your favor, so remain grounded in the truth so you can be steady and sensitive to the Spirit’s leading. Have faith that when you make your relationship with Him the priority, God will build something lasting—something that will reflect His glory and bring you true fulfillment. ■
