Dear Heavenly Father,
In Psalm 51:10(NKJV), the psalmist, King David, cried out to You, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” This verse resonates so deeply in my heart. I haven’t experienced the weight of responsibility and danger that David did, but I believe my desire to please You is as strong in many ways as his. As a young person, I recognize that I have the gift of good recall and memory. I remember very well the person I used to be. Whenever I feel like I’m reverting to my old ways, I ask that You please give me a clean heart and a right spirit. I never want to be the same person I was in the past. I want to constantly move onward and upward in Your Word. I want elevation and progression for my life, and to never regress. I know for this to happen, I must study Your Word and keep my eyes stayed on You.
Through the Apostle Paul, You tell us in Galatians 5:25 (NKJV), “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Many people, even some Christians, don’t understand what this means. They know Heavenly Father; they know Jesus Christ, but they don’t know that walking in the power of the Holy Spirit makes the Christian life spiritually dynamic! It is a total dependency on the Holy Spirit. It is waking up in the morning and saying, “Good Morning, Holy Spirit. Please help me walk in the Kingdom today and be a blessing to the Kingdom of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.” Walking in the Holy Spirit is being in total submission to his leadership and guidance. This is what You want all Your children to do.
In John 14:26(NKJV), Jesus Christ said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to Your remembrance all things that I said to you.” How wonderful it is to know, Heavenly Father, that You have provided for us such help, not only for external situations, but for internal issues as well; like sadness, grief, and confusion. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and teacher. He will help us to remember the exact Word that brings clarity and peace to our lives.
Every time we read or hear Your Word, a spiritual transaction occurs. The Holy Spirit quickens the Word to us; he makes it alive for us so that Your Word can feed our understanding and our hearts. Your Word is spiritual food, and digesting it will cause us to grow and become spiritually strong.
In 2Corinthians 13:5, You tell us to examine ourselves, to examine our lives, and recognize the areas where we need improvement and to grow stronger in faith. Heavenly Father, when we come to a place in our lives where we’re not growing as You would have us, please help us to open our eyes to this. We don’t want to be the way we used to be. We don’t want to be at a spiritual standstill where our lives are frozen, and we’re going nowhere fast. We want to be elevated in Your goodness and love. Show us how to get off ‘pause’ and kick our fruit production in high gear.
Just as a plant needs soil, water, and the sun to grow and thrive, we need Your Word, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and Your Son, Jesus Christ, to live the life You desire us to have. You’ve called us to a life of spiritual elevation, progression, and promotion, and this is what we want. Help us to press onward in the newness that Christ offers. Please continue to open Your treasures to us as we let our flesh take a backseat and let Jesus Christ take the driver’s seat. We want him to take the wheel of our lives, because he knows our destination. He will take us where Your goodness and treasures are never ending. We surrender to Your Will, in the powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
