Dear Heavenly Father,
In Hebrews 13:16(NLT), You tell us, “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” It is very important to You that we give and be a blessing to others, and you are reminding us not to forget to do good. Many of us do in fact forget. We have lots of tech toys to remind us of things we consider important, but when it comes to the bread of life, we allow ourselves to lose track with our assignments. Please help us to do better, Father.
In James 2:17(NLT), You tell us that faith without works is dead. Anything dead is lifeless and loveless. That’s not the life of a Christian. We are alive and thriving because Your love and Word abides in our hearts. You tell us that if we see a person that doesn’t have food or clothing, we should not ignore their need and do nothing to help them. We shouldn’t say, “Have a nice day!” and be our way. Christ has commanded us to show love, compassion, and generosity, because these attributes demonstrate life and giving. They speak to our faith in You and Your provision.
You tell us that faith produces good deeds. Help us to be good producers, Heavenly Father. You’ve empowered us to pass along Your love, and I was reminded of this recently, when I had the opportunity to bless someone very close to me. I saw the joy in her face when she received the gift. It felt wonderful to give something that produced joy in someone’s life. It made me think of how You must feel when we express our appreciation for all Your gifts. John 3:16 tells us that You gave to the world the most precious gift that could be given, Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. You’re the greatest Giver of all!
Jesus Christ said in Luke 6:38(NLT), “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Thank You for opening our eyes to the many opportunities to give and be a blessing. You have planted them all around our everyday environments. They are big and small, and sometimes giving a smile is enough to brighten someone’s day. Help us be mindful of our obligation and privilege to give from a heart that is nurtured with the love of Christ. Please help us to be better givers, according to Your Word and Will. Amen.
