Dear Heavenly Father,
I recently came across a video about a woman that was absolutely terrible to her kids. The things she did to them should never be spoken, but it made me think very deeply about my own child, and how much I love and appreciate his life. I gave birth to him at a young age, and had to overcome the shame of being a teen mother. I remember when my mom found out I was pregnant, I felt so ashamed. She told me, “Don’t ever hold your head low. Your choice to sin was a mistake, but your child is not a mistake. Lift your head up and walk with integrity, because you are a child of God and you have nothing to be ashamed of.”
I tell you, this was the most comforting and humbling thing she could’ve said in this situation. I was raised to abstain from sexual sin. I was ready to face everyone’s disappointment in me, and I thought my mom was going to let me have it in the worse way, but she did the exact opposite, and so did the rest of my family. Thank You, Heavenly Father, for placing me in a family that knows Your Word, and that also know Your forgiveness. Thank You that they covered me in Your grace, so that I would not bring my child into an environment of shame, but one filled with Your love and peace.
Jesus Christ said in Luke 6:37 (NLT), “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” Some Christians behave like Pharisees, who judged people for sins that they were committing themselves. Jesus Christ has warned us against such attitudes and behaviors. He wants us to be loving towards one another, and to let our lights shine so that we bring glory to the Father. We should never condemn people or make them feel ashamed for their mistakes, sins, or bad judgment. You are the Righteous Judge, and only You know what is in our hearts.
Thank You, Father, for teaching us about the importance of forgiveness, and for helping unwed mothers to be the role models of Christ that their children desperately need. Please help them to hear about Your love and to understand that You are our Provider, Protector, and Sustainer. We can lean on You for everything and You will never disappoint us or let us down. Help us to learn to honor our body-temples, because You tell us in 1Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are the temples of Your Precious Holy Spirit. You also remind us that we don’t belong to ourselves, we belong to You.
Thank You for the gift of our children. Let us always remember that they belong to You, and are gifts to our lives. It is a privilege to be their parents. They are a blessing and provide an opportunity to give, minister, and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They help us to open our hearts to love greater and therefore have a deeper appreciation for the love that You give us every moment of each day. Help us to raise them to be obedient and to honor the truth of Your wonderful Word.
Thank You for Jesus Christ, and thank You for the Holy Spirit. Please help us to be a blessing to Your Kingdom, and let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
