Showing Our Love for You

Dear Heavenly Father,

Many people say they love You, Heavenly Father, but they do not show it in their actions. We are all guilty of having attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors that don’t please You, but instead of repenting of these in humbled submission, we say things like, “God knows my heart.” This is true, but it doesn’t mean we get away with disobedience. You tell us in Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT), “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” We do some shady stuff, but it is time out for this. In the environment around us, we are witnessing unprecedented confusion, egotism, arrogance, and lying. Your people must do more than give lip service like the rest of the world. We must show our love and devotion to You through our actions.

The Old Testament tells us about Moses, a great man of faith. You employed him to deliver Your people, the children of Israel, because they were enslaved in Egypt. The pharaoh in power did not look upon Your people as favorably as the pharaoh who reigned during the life and times of Joseph. The Israelites had grown to great numbers, and the Egyptian pharaoh saw them as a threat to his power. He was a terrible and ruthless taskmaster who was brutal to them. You sent Moses to lead them out of the bondage of slavery in Egypt, but pharaoh’s heart became even more evil and hardened. He refused to let them go.

Through Moses, You did mighty miracles in Egypt, Heavenly Father. You told Moses and Aaron to instruct the children of Israel to prepare the Passover Feast, and on the night of the feast, You executed judgment against the gods of Egypt that pharaoh and the Egyptians worshipped. Exodus 12:23(NLT) tells us, For the LORD will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the LORD will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down.”

Moses was obedient to follow Your directives, and this made his leadership great. He had a heart to obey You. Moses instructed the people just as You said, and because they acted in faith and trusted Your Word, when You saw the blood on the doorpost, You would not permit the angel of death to enter that house. It didn’t matter if those in the home we’re feeling happy or sad. It didn’t matter if they prayed loud or kept silent. It didn’t matter whether they understood why they had to place the blood on the doorpost. What mattered is that they heard Your Word and they had a heart to follow it. They were obedient and this is what matters to You today!

Heavenly Father, we know You love us because You showed us through Your Son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 tells us that You so loved the entire world that You spared not the life of Your only begotten Son, but You gave his life as a sacrifice for our sins. You showed us that love is the greatest action word there is. So, we can give lip service all day long, but what matters is the efforts we make and the deeds we execute to demonstrate our love for You.

Please help us, God, to change our hearts so we live our lives according to Your Word. You told Your people in Exodus 23:22 that if they obeyed Your voice and did all You told them to do, You’d take care of their enemies and adversaries. You’ll do the same for us, if we will only obey. You said in 1John 5:3 that if we love You, we will keep Your commandments, and Your commandments are not burdensome. They are good and will preserve us with long life, fulfillment, and abundance. Thank You for helping us to open our eyes wide to this, for Your Word is true. It is a lamp to our paths, and we will be blessed if we keep it in our hearts.

Thank You for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Please let Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
