Dear Heavenly Father,
Someone asked me, “Why do you believe in God? How do you know He’s real?” Some Christians get offended by this question from those that are a little arrogant in their attitude and don’t know You through Christ, but I think it provides an opening for us to witness to people about You through the Lord Jesus Christ. It gives us a chance to tell them about his sacrifice, and we can minister to their need to have You in their lives. But most importantly, it provides them with a life-changing introduction to You. Through us, You can show them Your love and power. As ambassadors for Christ, we don’t do the heavy lifting. When it comes to people’s souls, You take care of that, and all we need to do is make the introduction.
When people question Your existence, it means that they comprehend the meaning of perfection. They understand that perfection means peace, joy, satisfaction, and goodness. Even if they are not conscious of it, they expect perfection from You, and since You are our Creator, what they are really asking is “Why are we not perfect, and why isn’t the world perfect?”
Jesus Christ teaches us in John 4:24(KJV), “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” You are an invisible God, and although people use this as an excuse not to believe in You, they are very used to believing in things they cannot see. We believe in the wind, yet we can’t see it. We believe in the air we breathe, yet we can’t see it. And we believe in the power of love, yet we cannot see it or hold it in our hands. So, as a matter of practice, we not only believe in what we cannot see, we acknowledge and enjoy the results of what these invisible forces deliver into our lives. But for some reason, when it comes to You, many people stop short. They will not allow themselves the luxury of having faith in You.
You are our Creator. You tell us in Ephesians 2:10 that we are Your masterpiece—Your finest work. You have so masterfully created us that we think, move, and have a being in Your very own image. We have been shaped, molded, and modeled in Christ. When we line up our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and actions to match those of Your only begotten Son, something extremely spiritual happens. Romans 8:16 tells us that Your Spirit testifies with our human-spirit that we are Your children. Jesus Christ also declares in John 15:26 that Your Spirit, the Holy Spirit, will testify all about him to us. This testimony of Your Spirit begins spiritually. It begins internally, and this is when we come alive in a way that is indescribable, unexplainable, and undeniable.
We are three-part beings. We are spirit, soul, and body. All three are important because all three make us who You have created us to be, but we can only be connected to You through our human-spirit. Our relationship with You through Christ is a Holy Spirit to human-spirit reality. You tell us in 1Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are Your house. They are the temples for Your Spirit. Many people have confusion and chaos in their lives because they define their beings only by their physical bodies, and this is a big mistake. The body is made of dirt, and it will one day return to that from which it was made. Because of Jesus Christ, our spirit and soul can live an eternity.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not the other way around. You have commanded us to walk by faith in the same way that Jesus Christ did. The perfection in the form of peace, joy, satisfaction, and goodness can only be found by having faith in the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul put it this way in Philippians 3:12(NLT), “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.” Jesus Christ paid the price for our perfection, and our life on earth gives us an opportunity to reach for it. This is the greatest thing that any human being can do.
Thank You for giving us Your wonderful and powerful Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You for rescuing us from darkness and thank You for making it possible for us to come alive through Jesus Christ. We don’t have to convince anyone that You are real. We just need to tell them that You gave Your only begotten Son to save them. You gave his life to be sacrificed on the cross so that we can have the gift of eternal life. We can tell those that don’t know You about the invitation You extend through Christ to every person. You invite them to give their lives to Christ and to be transformed by his love. As believers, You have given us the privilege of telling others about this invitation. After we tell them, we can pray for them, that they too will come alive to You in Christ through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for salvation and for Your many blessings. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
