1Corinthians 7:8(NLT)
“So I say to those who aren’t married and to widows—it’s better to stay unmarried, just as I am.”
As a single woman, how many times have you said, “If I could just find someone that would love me for me.” You don’t want to have to meet someone’s unrealistic expectations for how you should look and what you should be about. You want confidence deep within that even on your worst day, the man you love will love and adore you because he gets you. He loves who you are inside and out. That’s what you desire, and you feel it would add so much to your life and bring you such peace to have someone like this in your corner. The thought of actually living out this vision should excite you and put a smile on your face. It should also inspire you to seek the Lord and make some changes, because in order to live the reality of your desire, you must mirror the man you desire to meet.
There’s a reason behind every circumstance, situation, and condition. For every action there is a reaction. What we put out there is coming back to us. These are all truths that our Master Jesus taught us in God’s Word. He tells us very simply in Matthew 7:12(NLT), “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.” His wisdom teaches us that we must be mindful of our confessions, conversations, behaviors, and attitudes because the outcome of saying, confessing, thinking, and doing the wrong things will greatly impact our lives.
We might say to ourselves, “But I know that I’m ready for this blessing!” Most of us think we are, but the reality is that when we’re spiritually prepared for the blessing, the blessing will arrive. That’s the simple truth. Situations and circumstances will part like the Red Sea, and the blessing will walk right in. This is the way God setup the universe to operate. So, we need to reevaluate our state of spiritual readiness and align it with what God says in His Word. As we do this, we’ll discover that He requires us to prioritize intimacy in our relationship with Him in a greater way, because not doing so is often the thing that separates us from the blessing we seek.
Our attitude about worshiping and honoring God through Jesus Christ while we’re single tells Him everything about how we will worship and honor Him when we’re married. For some of us, this is great news, but for others, it’s where they get stuck. Some single women can’t imagine living the reality of 1Corinthians 7:8. They can’t imagine devoting to God all the time, energy, and resources that they’re willing and can’t wait to devote to a man. They’ve never encountered the presence of God in a way that changes them forever. A reality of remaining unmarried, without a significant man in their lives, is unthinkable to them. They just can’t envision that level of closeness with our Heavenly Father.
James 1:17(NLT) tells us, “Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” We must remember that marriage is God’s idea. He has blessed us with this institution, and He wants everyone who desires it to have it, but here’s the thing, our marriage to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, must be the most important union of all others in our lives. Yes, God cares about our time of singleness, and He knows the desires of our hearts. To demonstrate our love for Him and our faith in Him, we should utilize this time of singleness, however short or long it may be, to grow in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It’s so important that we prioritize this.
It’s not enough to simply say that God is first in our lives, He sees our hearts. He said in Jeremiah 17:10(NLT), “But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” We don’t get to tell God where we are in the faith. He already knows. So, let’s use our time of being single wisely and seek to strengthen our fellowship with God. Acts 17:27 tells us that He desires us to seek after Him and feel our way to Him. He is not far from us, but we must be sure to show Him that He’s our first priority. When He is, all the other pieces of our lives will come together beautifully. ■
