What Does God Think of Me?

Did you ever ask yourself, “what does God think of me?” Well, the answer to that question is beautifully articulated in Ephesians 2:10(NLT): For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” In the eyes of our Heavenly Father, we are incredibly precious, and He views us as His finest work. Before we accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we were lost in sin, but through God’s glorious plan of redemption through Christ, we are now a part of His family! We are children of God and brothers and sisters of Christ!

Ephesians 2:19-22 (The Message) explains: “You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.”

Our Heavenly Father knows that we make mistakes. Yet, with all our flaws, we are precious and honored by God, because He knows what He’s made us in Christ. On our own, we couldn’t measure up, but God’s plan all along was to unite us with Christ, so that our lives would be hidden in him. Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT) teaches: “1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”

This is the work that God completed for us through the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ. Now, when He looks at us, His kids, He sees the Christ in us, because He knows this is who we really are; we must believe this too. So, the answer to the question, “what does God think of me?” is that He thinks the very best of you. All praise to God that His view of us isn’t defined by our view of ourselves. It’s defined by His own heart and knowledge of who we truly are.

God loves us, and 1 John 4:9 reminds us that He has shown how much He loves us by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world so that we can have the gift of eternal life. We can walk with this level of confidence, knowing that nothing or no one can take away what God has given us!

Romans 8:1 (NLT) declares: “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” Self-condemnation, the practice of strongly criticizing ourselves and refusing to let go of past sins or mistakes, can weigh us down and keep us stuck. The remedy lies in embracing what God says about us in His Word. Through Christ, He has stamped us approved and declares us righteous, because His Holy Spirit resides within us! This grants us the incredible joy and privilege of becoming more like Christ as we are guided by his Spirit and walk by faith each day. ■
