It’s All About the Relationship

Our Heavenly Father, Yahweh, the Great I Am, is brilliant beyond what we could ever attempt to define with human words. He is magnificent beyond magnificence, perfect beyond perfection, and majestic beyond majesty. God is glorious, righteous, and holy, deserving of all glory, honor, and praise. In truth, He is worthy to be praised every moment of every day, from now until eternity. As the psalmist expresses in Psalm 103:1 (NLT), “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.” This profound sentiment should continually dwell in our hearts and be on our lips.

As Psalm 8:4-5 (NLT) declares, “What are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.” It is nothing short of a divine marvel that our Great Big Wonderful God, whose grandeur and majesty surpass all comprehension, desires to communicate and fellowship with us, mere mortals. This incredible truth highlights His boundless love and unmerited grace. Despite our insignificance in the vast expanse of creation, God has chosen us—handpicked us out from among the world—to be His very own. In His infinite wisdom and profound affection, He has elevated and honored us with a relationship that reflects His glory and care. It is a testament to His overwhelming love that He not only sees us but values us deeply, inviting us into His presence and into a fellowship that transcends the ordinary and touches the eternal.

God’s Perspective vs. Human Perspective

God says in Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT): “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” There is an immeasurable difference between divine and human understanding. This verse emphasizes that God’s thoughts and ways are infinitely higher than ours, and He uses the distance from the heavens and the earth to illustrate this vast gap. The comparison shows us that God’s wisdom and plans encompass a divine perspective that is beyond human comprehension.

In essence, Isaiah 55:8-9 invites believers to embrace a posture of faith and trust, acknowledging the vast and incomprehensible nature of God’s wisdom and ways compared to our own limited perspective. In other words, our Heavenly Father is the One with the plan. He knows what is best for us and this verse encourages us to trust in His guidance, especially when facing uncertainty or difficulty. His plans and solutions are far superior to anything we might conceive on our own. Trusting the wisdom and knowledge of this verse calls for humility in acknowledging that while we may not fully understand or predict God’s actions, His wisdom is perfect, and His plans are purposeful.

It’s a Walk, Not a Sprint

Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that we were created in God’s image, and Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) informs us, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” In Psalm 139:14 (NKJV), the psalmist declared, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” These wonderful truths reveal God’s meticulous and excellent handiwork in crafting our beings. Each of us is a unique reflection of His image, intricately designed with purpose and care. We can be assured that everything about us—our gifts, our experiences, our very essence—can be used for God’s glory and to serve His divine purpose. This understanding encourages us to embrace our identity in Christ and to recognize the significant role we play in our Heavenly Father’s plan.

As we contemplate God’s masterful and magnanimous gift of life, it is essential to both acknowledge and understand that, in our current state, we are imperfect beings undergoing a process of being perfected in Jesus Christ, moment by moment. We were not born with minds and hearts already filled with the knowledge of God’s Word, nor did we emerge as fully mature adults. Just as Jesus Christ was born as a vulnerable baby, entirely dependent on his parents for care, we too began as infants, needing to grow, learn, and develop. This gradual process of growth and maturation is a fundamental part of God’s design for us, shaping us into the individuals He desires us to be.

Our Heavenly Father is incredibly patient with us. There are some individuals that do not give their lives to Christ until they are very close to the grave, having used the bulk of their youthful energy and resources to advance the devil’s agenda rather than pursuing the Will of our God. We should be so awesomely thankful that our Heavenly Father doesn’t get angry with us about this, but rather, He forgives us and delights when we come to Him, no matter our age.

2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) tells us, “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” This verse shows God’s profound patience and His desire for all to turn to Him. God does not impose His Will upon us; instead, He grants us the freedom to choose how we will respond to His boundless goodness. He’s given us free will choice. Each of us has the power to decide whether we will embrace His love and live according to His Will or not. In His infinite patience, God awaits our response, hoping for our repentance and transformation.

As we look around at creation, the trees, plants, flowers, all the beauty of nature; we see the clouds, sun, moon, stars—the air we breathe; all of these wonders, our wonderful Father has created, appointed and positioned strategically for our happiness and well-being. With His unyielding grace with mercy, God responding to us with beauty and power. Every day and hour, every moment of time we are given, requires a response to a response from us to God. We must respond to Him and do so in a way that conveys our gratitude for this walk, for this relationship that we get to enjoy with our Heavenly Father. While we’re here on this earth we must respond every moment every hour with faith and gratitude understanding that we may not have all that we desire this moment, but as we continue to walk with God, our faith will be strengthened and we will have the desires of our hearts.

As we gaze upon the wonders of creation—the towering trees, vibrant flowers, and the vast expanse of the sky, adorned with clouds, sun, moon, and stars—we witness the handiwork of our loving Father. Each element of nature, meticulously placed and designed, speaks of His boundless grace and care. As Psalm 19:1 (NIV) reminds us, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”

In every moment, from the rise of the sun to the quiet of the night, we encounter God’s beauty and power. These are not mere coincidences, but deliberate acts of divine provision meant for our joy and well-being. Our response to this magnificent display should be one of heartfelt gratitude and faith. We should be deeply moved by the words of our Master Jesus, who invites us into a personal relationship in Revelation 3:20 (NLT): “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Accepting his invitation is truly when life begins.

Our daily walk with God is an invitation to respond to His love with gratitude and faith. Although we may not always have everything we desire in the present, we can be assured that as we continue to nurture our relationship with Him, our faith will grow. Our deepest needs and desires will be met according to His promises and perfect plan. Cherishing our relationship with our Heavenly Father is what it’s all about. Our oneness with Him anchors us as we journey forward, knowing that His grace is abundant and His plans for us are good. So, with a thankful heart, be excited for each day you get to spend with Him, confident that your faith is continually strengthened. In doing so, you will honor the incredible gift of your relationship with God and the promise of an abundant life in Christ. ■
