Delight in God and Watch His Blessings Unfold

Psalm 37:4(NKJV) tells us, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” This verse is a beautiful invitation from God to experience the deep joy and fulfillment that comes from seeking our Heavenly Father first in all things. Jesus Christ also tells us in Matthew 6:33 (NLT), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” It’s clear from these two verses that delighting in our relationship with God aligns us with His Will and blessings.

To “delight” in the Lord is more than just a passive feeling we have every now and again. It’s an active and intentional pursuit of joy in His presence, His goodness, and His promises. Talk about ooey gooey goodness—this is it! Basking in the presence of the Creator of the entire universe is a joy that exceeds our greatest imaginations. It’s no less than utter bliss.

When we truly delight in God with an understanding of who He is, our hearts align with His. This is when our desires begin to reflect His Will for our lives. It’s not a kid-in-a-candy-store mentality. It’s not about treating God like a means to an end or asking Him to fulfill our own plans. Instead, it’s about cultivating a heart of worship, reverence, and trust in God, believing that He knows what’s best for us and that His plans will always lead us to what is truly good.

However, despite this beautiful promise, many believers don’t fully take God up on this offer. We don’t find delight in our relationship with Him. Instead, we’re struggling disappointment and impatience because we feel that God is taking too long to bless us with what we think we deserve. This hesitation can prevent us from truly delighting in God. We’re distracted by our own desires and doubts, losing sight of the joy that comes from fully trusting in His timing and His plan for our lives.

When Christian believers read this verse, you can easily become captivated by the fact that God says He’ll give you the desires of your heart – but it’s conditional, let’s not forget the requirement. We have to delight in the Lord and then the blessing comes.  To delight means we have feelings of extreme happiness and pleasure. Most of the people that I speak to are single women, and often, they are more willing to feel extreme happiness and pleasure when they’re in a relationship with a man.

God placed within us the natural desire for love and marriage, so having those feelings is very organic. Our problem is that the joy we are seeking from our future spouses is often the quest that is motivating much of our energy. When we pull back all the layers on it, and if we’re honest about what we see, our desire for a spouse is higher than our desire for God. Even if we don’t admit it, He knows the truth. Jesus Christ commands us in Matthew 22:37 (NLT), “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” But for many single women, there’s a chasm between how we’re supposed to love the Father and our desire to love a man. We simply aren’t there in terms of putting God first and committing ourselves fully to Him.

Life is incomplete and will not hold true satisfaction if we are not thrilled for the privilege of being God’s children. Every day should carry the excitement of anticipating what new thing God will do next in our lives. Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is what opens the door to our destiny and keeps blessings flowing into our lives. It’s also what enables us to move mountains, as Matthew 17:20 says: “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” These wonderful truths are pointing to our faith in the reality that “with God, all things are possible”, as Jesus tells us in Matthew 19:26. It’s not about faith in material things or relationships with other people. It’s faith in God and trusting in His infallible, perfect, and glorious nature that secures our futures.

What’s happening in our hearts and minds plays a significant role in shaping the outcome of our lives. So, for the single women praying for God to bless you with a godly partner, it’s important to ask Him to reveal if you are prioritizing anything above your commitment to Him. Be patient with His answer. He’s knows what you can handle and will reveal the truth in a very loving and tender way. Remember, life is always about our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is the most important aspect of life to Him, and it should be to us as well. Being patient as He guides and teaches you how to love Him is the best decision you’ll ever make. And when your love for Him is where it needs to be, you’ll find that He will guide you to the right partner in His perfect timing. It will someone who shares your love for God in Christ and will walk with you in faith.■
